More glaring security holes have been discovered. Patches available now. Hit Windows Update and get them.

Mike: I would think that these new updates should not cause any problems for computers that already have SP-2 and are free of spyware and viruses. The solution may be to uninstall the new updates.

I applied all patches with no problems at all. Must be something else involved.

Mine installed on auto update when I was shutting down Tues night(6 patches). Wed morn on startup all kinds of sheet happened! about 2 hrs of unexplained wierd stuff, home page loading 58 times, freeze ups, etc. Seems to have resolved its self somehow now. Way my luck runs, I draw the short straw 99 outa 100 every time! lol.

I had SP2 already installed + antivir anti-virus software (up to date) +firewall up and even had Microsofts beta version of it´s spyware program. Bam! Auto-resets and then blue screens galore. Couldn´t boot to Windows. Ran Windows XP restore program and got back in. Modem wouldn´t work...found I was missing other critical data..but could operate the damn thing. I finally re-installed Win XP, then did the SP2 upgrade and all is well....till someone or some cyberthing blasts my computer again through these new security holes. BTW I have the German version of Win XP...don´t know if that makes a difference. It shouldn´t.
One strange thing...after I downloaded the update, and then all the crap happened, I couldn´t restore the computer to an earlier date. I was stuck with the upgrade..and all the problems...until I wiped the Windows slate clean and started over. "So I have stayed as I am, without regret, seperated from the normal human condition." Man that bites. I would hope ol' BillG would be thinking of his international customers and not screw them over, even if unintentionally.
Wonder if the Beta spyware had anything to do with it. Reloading is a PITA. "Rather be ridin' than rollin'" |
