Same Question?

I just ran into it the other day, when looking at a friends photography.

I am curious about it.

I also backup with Time Machine to an external. However, the backup portion on my external died yesterday, so important files were put on another computer. I like the idea of an off site backup, but not sure of price or reliability between companies.

I use DropBox too and love it. Besides acting as an external backup tool for important files, another nice feature is you can share folders with other DropBox users. I am involved in a collaborative project for a conference and have found it works great for three of us to work on shared files very easily. One advantage over other external storage systems is Dropbox pushes updated folder content right to the user's machine and to the Dropbox server. So you don't have to log on to the website to access or update anything in your Dropbox folders. The ability to just work locally and not have to upload/download is nice. Another bonus: it's also free. Although the drawback to using the free service is the space offered is relatively low. But if you refer people and they sign up, you get more space for free.

Thanks! I checked out and installed DropBox free version. It seems pretty cool, an easy way to keep certain files synced between my iMac and MacBook. It'll be great for an offsite backup for current work files in case anything goes wrong and whatever computer I'm working on gets messed up; I'd hate to have to re-do a bunch of work.
