Moderation of this forum

Veteran's Advisor has had to resign as moderator for this forum, as he has moved to a different city and is now in a doctoral education program, with insufficient time to do moderation.

We have asked the head PVA NSO if they could find someone else to help with moderation, but PVA has declined and do not want to support this forum, instead requesting that Veterans with SCI/D instead contact their own NSO. You can find a list of NSOs here:

We may be asking DAV to consider helping with the forum, but until then, continue to post discussion topics, but advice on benefits, etc. will not be forthcoming for a while.

While I am a VA employee, I cannot be and do not attempt to be an official representative of the VHA.

Thank you for starting this forum, Veterans do not have an open forum to get help or express their views at any other site.

PVA should be ashamed of themselves for not supporting this forum. I have suggested several times that they start a forum, but it fell on deaf ears. I don't know why they think Veterans don't need a place to go for everyday problems. I will write them again and hope other PVA members so the same.

Hopefully the VA will step up and help out.

Just as it is on this forum (CCC) you can get true and correct answers from the people who know. As on this forum, there are a few know-it-alls, so you have to get to know the site and its workings a bit. Just don't ask how long anything will take to get done through the VA. They hate that. They are not mind readers.

The VA will help if issues are brought to their attention, other than that they like to keep us in the dark.

I don't think you can characterize all of the VA this way. That is certainly not the case where I work...in fact we have bent over backwards to provide our patients with information, education, and ability to interact with their health care team (access to their electronic chart at any time during hospitalization, a daily print out of labs done and due as well as medications to receive for the day, etc.). My Healthe Vet is one of the best websites around for health information, and if you register, you can keep your own personal and private medical records there for things like weight control, blood glucose or blood pressure monitoring that you do at home, in addition to order your meds, see your lab results, and check your appointments.

Probably because they do not have the resources to run discussion forums with full time paid staff as moderators. This forum requires more than 1 full time person to get rid of spammers, take care of petty squabbles and flamers, etc. etc. I have seen many websites with discussion forums discontinue that service due to these same problems. There are a number of Veterans websites that do provide discussion forums. Have you looked for them?

I can't answer for the PVA on this...if you are a member, have you talked to the national officers? I have some issues with how the PVA has been spending their money for a number of years now, which is why I am no longer a donor to them, in spite of being a life-time honorary member.

Respectfully I disagree. You may be doing your job and we appreciate that but you are only one person in one department in one VA. A veteran has to deal with all aspects in many VA's. I personally have only had to deal with 3 VA's in 40 plus years of SCI, you get no where until you find the right person. Until then it's question after question in hopes of finding the information needed. My Healthe Vet just came back on line this morning after being on vacation 3-1/2 days. Nuff said!
