Purple calves..

Nurse, anybody else know what this is from. It gets worse throughout the day, this pic is after waking up. I sent the pic to my dr. assuming it was due to poor circulation. He thinks since it looks more like bruising, it's from a blood disorder. There is no way for them to get bruised nor is it anywhere else, esp. where I typically bruise. Help!

Are we looking at the front of your (nice) legs or the back, quad79? In what position do you sleep?

HC, it's the back of my lower legs. Unfortunately when the pic uploaded here for some reason the discoloration doesn't appear as bad. It happens it these dark purplish patches on both legs.

I sleep on my back always, no need to switch it up because spasms will just throw me back. I do have to keep my ankles propped though. This discoloration stays & worsens throughout the day. I still figure it is poor circulation but it is starting to scare me. They don't swell nor do they become really warm to the touch so Idt it's blood clots, plus bilatteral clots would be odd.

Thanks Andrea. I do have low blood pressure & that part of my legs stay ice cold which leads me to believe circulatory too.

I think if you had a clot, your leg would swell up to the point where you would certainly notice it. The picture does look like bruising to my layman's eye...maybe you're transferring too hard and bruising yourself? Just guessing, I hope you can figure it out.

When you press on the skin what does it do? I have something that looks like that but not after I have been in bed.

Does this help? I used a photo editor to just adjust the brightness/contrast...

(I always have trouble with pics of skin)

My left foot has the same color, especially the toes. I have asked what it is, but never got an answer. I don't think it is bad circulation because I can move my foot and even my toes like normal. And it is the same if my foot has been up all day or I have been sitting all day with the foot down.
