My first was an IBM PC, 256 K, two 360 K floppies, CGA monitor, 5 meg HD. 1200 baud modem came soon after.

My first computer was a TRS-80 model II. I had dual disk drives, and a tape recorder.

My first (at work) was a Mac SE that I got in 1988. It had a 10 MB hard drive. When this crashed (after 7 years of hard use) I got a 40 MB replacement hard drive. I thought I was in hog heaven!
By the way, I continued to use this computer (in addition to a Windows PC) until last year when the floppy drive motor finally died. It was my baby! I still have a Mac (iMac) at home. (KLD) |

I don't remember specifics because I was 10 when our family bought our first computer in 1990 but I do remember my dad calling to say he'de bought a mouse and I thought he meant the furry squeaky kind! My dad still uses that computer for Word and Excel. And I remember learning Mavis Beacon teaches typing on those black and green screens in Elementary School. Oh and we had this LaserDisc CD Rom drive that only played the Discs it came with (Mother Gooses Nursery Rhymes was a good one lol). Oh and does anyone else remember Oregon Trail? And I remember chatrooms before there were graphics.
This is weird. I wonder what my daughter will say about my computer when shes 22? "Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow" ~ Anon |

My first computer at home arrived Christmas '93. It was a 25mhz 486 based machine with 4mb of RAM, 70.1Mb hard drive, and a 2400 baud modem that kept me busy quite often. I was introduced to Apple ][e's in school in the early-to-mid 80s, including Number Munchers, Oregon Trail, WITW is Carmen Sandiego, and Logo! Many fond memories of that little turtle...

On a related note, I started with Dos 2.1, upgraded as new versions came out, eventually added Desqview, upgraded that a couple of times.
Then came OS/2 2.11, Warp 3, Warp 4, and now eComStation (OEM Warp 4.52.) My first word processor was Multimate for Dos. I still use Multimate (4.0 for Dos) - works fine under eCS-OS/2. Alan "Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" |

c kennedy - I bought one of those Vic 20's ... that was 1981. 3k of RAM and a cassette drive. I took it to college with me and bought a 300 baud modem for $100. Was one of the very few to be able to log in to the university mainframes from my dorm room. But man was it slow. LOL. The Commodore64 came out a little later and was really popular. I just couldn't afford anything extravagant like all those 64K of RAM.
