What operating system do you use?

What are its pros and cons?

Personally, though I'm not overly computer literate, I use IBM's OS/2 (currently using Serenity System's OEM version, eComstation 1.1.) I started using OS/2 2.11 in the mid-90s, when fellow bbs sysops converted me to it from Dos/Desqview. I've since gone through Warp 3, Warp 4, and now eCS.

Pros - crash resistant, not real vulnerable to viruses (Windows viruses have no effect on it.) Cons - smaller amount of apps available than for MS OSes (it does run OS/2, Dos, and Win 3.1 apps.)

I'd recommend it to people looking for an OS to play with.

Mac OS X.3 Panther...great stuff, super stable, easy to use...

I can't really think of a con other than the higher cost for a Mac, which I think is entirely worth it.

Don't piss me off or I'll run over your toes.

I am currently using Windows XP, just because we are living in the world of PCs unfortunately. Well, I also use it for programming.

I also use OS 10.2 with my Mac to do graphics and to mix music. I haven't upgraded to Panther, yet. I probably won't until I get my hands on a G5

I have another PC, as a server as well as for programming. I just installed SuSE 9.

When I'm busy working with my PC, I control my Mac and the Linux box via VNC.

Well, Windows XP is... Windows XP. It does what Microsoft says it does, sometimes. And there is no substitute unfortunately.

OS X is extremely stable. It's UNIX based! So, there are developers and that should help OS X to grow, almost like Linux. Also, Mac's graphic quality is excellent. Not to mention its fantastic ability as a sequencer.

Linux is also stable. In fact, I haven't rebooted my Linux box in... 3 months. However, it isn't exactly user-friendly. One needs to work on it, basically to make it work.
BTW, did I mention that it's free?

Mac OSX... definitely the top of the heap.

We develop software for Windows and Mac, but all development is done on Macs. Our web servers are Linux based. The Win boxes are just used to test the products.

It's interesting that JulesK states that we're living in a world of PCs.. which I know to be unfortunately true... but is it changing? Just look at this thread. So far we're 4 OSX to 1 XP. And Jules could probably be added to the OSX brigade.

What do you guys think? Is the pendulum finally swinging away from the Evil Empire?
