Keyboard problem
Can anyone steer me the right direction to solve this problem? I just installed xp as my new operating system. now, I get all kinds of strange problems with the keyboard. Sticky keys show up on the toolbar and make noises when you press them, but nothing happens. The shift key doesn't work and the cap lock goes on and off by itself. I tried upgrading the driver and reinstalling the keyboard. I even bought a cheap XP keyboard, to no avail. I guess I'll try calling Microsoft. Thanks for any help.

Go to PC Pitstop and look on the top left hand side for the Test My PC area. Then click Full Test.

Okie, I'm in XP now.
Lessee, go to the Start Menu [I use Ctrl+Escape instead of hitting the Windows key three times] and then Control Panel. In here, click on Accessibility Options and then Settings next to the Use StickyKeys checkbox. To disable the sounds, uncheck "Make sounds when modifier key is pressed". To remove the Sticky Keys visual display from the System Tray, uncheck "Show StickyKeys status on screen". Can you tell me the other options you have checked? Like "Press Modifier key twice to lock" and "Turn StickyKeys off if..." Those would help with diagnosing the problem. -Steven |

MIE crashed while posting the previous post and made another post completely quoting Steven so I edited it to say this.

"Why do you have to press the windows key 3 times? I touch it once and up it pops. Is this because of sticky keys?"
Yup, Sticky Keys. Microsoft decided to make the Windows key a "modifier key" that works as a Sticky Key. I've emailed them a few times about making it an option to have the Windows Key as a modifier key in Longhorn [the next versionn of Windows] but haven't heard a thing from them. -Steven |

Hi Svenstrs:
I think it has been at least 6 months since we talked on the phone and exchanged emails. I do recall now that you are using a PolyCom speaker-phone and I contacted their Tech support for you. I don't recall if you were using Windows Me and now this is a Windows XP upgrade that you put on this PC? Let us know if we were able to help you solve this problem and I still have your email address. You were correct. The Falcon and the Snowman were released from prison. PN |
