Adaptive Ski Vacation
Does anyone have any recent info to share from last season on adaptive ski programs out west? We're thinking Colorado or Utah. I've looked at lots of sites, but there's nothing like getting the info from someone who's actually had the experience personally. Our family includes one adaptive skier and three able-bodied skiers, all adults. THANKS!

Shepherd Center offers an adaptive trip to Breckenridge every year. Able bodied family members are invited as well. I had hoped to go in 2010 but upper extremity issues isn't going to allow that to happen.
I do not believe you have to be an alumni of Shepherd. I ski locally in PA at Ski Liberty using a bi-ski. Love the rush

Both Breckenridge, CO and Winter Park (also in colorado) have excellent programs along with some of the best facilities, equipment, terrain and weather. Brek probably has better/more options as far as lodging and entertainment goes.

I went out to Park City, Utah a couple of years ago. It was pretty good, but I hear other programs are better.

I went to Heavenly last February. I have my own ski, and my wife and daughters were there to help. I have my own equipment so I didn't need much more than access into the lodges which was no problem. There were areas around the lodges where they had put elevators in to accommodate. Generally the lifts at large western resorts are more mono-ski friendly than the lifts we have here in Michigan. They are lower and slower on liftoff. Also, there are special rates at a lot of resorts for disabled skiers and there companion. Whereever you diced, make sure you check there website for all of the disability info.

I agree, Breckenridge has a great program. I also skied at Steamboat Springs, but I prefer Breck
Have fun! |

Breckenridge is the ONLY place to go for returnees to skiing ... and also great for first timers.

Adaptive Sking
Hey WheelchairTITAN, that is quite a statement! Can you please tell me what it is that you like so much at Breckenridge? I am very interested in knowing specifics. Thanks!
