Silver wins Javits Award

Jerry Silver, Ph. D., professor of neurosciences at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, was named a winner of the Senator Jacob Javits Award in the Neurosciences. The award provides for up to seven years of research funding from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, a division of the National Institutes of Health. Silver is one of only eight investigators who were given this award. He is investigating the role of astrocytes in spinal cord regeneration following injury. His findings may prove invaluable in developing and testing potential therapies for spinal cord injury.

A Jacob Javits award is something that is given by NINDS to their most valued investigators. I received one in 1985. It adds two years of funding to the normal 5-year NIH grant. Wise.
