another trip to A&E last night. SP catheter

havent posted in a while having a tuff time lately. sp cath has been filling with blood and lots of clotting of blood and mucus. the problem is im waiting on a urethroplasty to rebuild my uretera, it has been completly obliterated.
my cath became blocked last few weeks slowing down voiding into leg bag, problem with this is that bladder tryes to pass urine trough my uretra. this pain causes my to cry in agony. walking around the house waiting for the next painfull spasm. i take detrusittol for bladder spasms.
i use a fentanyl patch for pain and tramadol for break trough pain and evan this does not help when the pain comes on.

i went to me Doc tuesday for help he couldnt help but gave me a letter for A&E to get a urologist on duty to change it. i rang A&E on wendsday and they told me to come out. i told them of my pain, the Doc on duty flushed it with saline solution and told me to go home and come back if i had more probs. i had asked him if i could have it changed and he said no need to change it that it wasnt in long enough.

flushing it didnt work, when i got home i was still in great pain. so i tryed to clear it by squeezing the tube creating an effect like plunging a sink. this seemed to dislodge alot of the clots and flow speeded up, but blocked again.
last night the pain had me in tears and my daughter's had two friends sleeping over so i had to try not to wake them in my pain, suffering in silence as much as i could.
i rang A&E and spoke to a lady and was crying in pain and she sugested an ambulance (i live only 5KM from hospital) while waiting for them to come i squeezed the tube again and was shocked to see the amount of gunk and blood that was dislodged.

so they said they would change it. it was taken out very fast with me screaming in agony it felt like my uretra was being pulled into me belly, sweat roling down my face. then it came to putting it back in i think they went from 16 to 18. the nurse sugested i have some morphine for the pain i told them i was wearing a fentanyl patch and they said maby morphine wasnt a good idea.
so inserting was very bad also putting pressure on my uretra the pain was well over the bar of 10. so now i have new sp cath inserted.

they also said i have uti very cloudy urine and they could smell it also.
i have this in since the start of may. it was going well apart from say the last few weeks this blockage was building up.

now im wondering if i should come off the fentayl patch as i cant have any more pain meds in hospital when i attend, or maby i can and they didnt know.

great site for info thank you.

Bleeding with clots is often associated with a UTI. Did they put you on an antibiotic? Did they collect urine for a C&S?

You need to get an irrigation set with either a bulb syringe or catheter tipped plunger syringe, sterile normal saline (NaCl 0.9%) solution, and learn how to properly do irrigation at home. If your catheter clogs, with sediment or clots, you can irrigate it yourself. This way you only need to go to the ER if you cannot get the catheter unplugged at home. We make sure that all of our indwelling catheter clients have this as part of their home supplies at all times.

Please complete your profile. It is very difficult to answer questions without knowing something about you. For example, haven't a clue what A&E is (it is a TV channel in the USA).
