Buyin a new computer

I'm going to buy a new computer and I was wondering if any of you had any recommendations? Computers you have or have had that you liked. I love gaming so I want a good gaming computer. Also for homework, e-mail, and web. I've looked at Dell, HP, Alienware. I'm not to excited about switching to Vista though. Will it be easy to upgrade to Windows 7 when it comes out?

I can only reccomend building your own PC. It'll be cheaper more powerful and a good learning experience. And assembly is really simple. Also you can save big on software. Just buy WinXP and thats really all the software you need to buy. You can Download the rest for free online. Open Office for one. It's a damn good MS Office alternative and it's free. VLC for free DVD and media viewing. FireFox of course and throw in ThunderBird for email. Oh and a tip on the gaming side check out the new SSD (Solid State Drive) drives. I got a OCZ brand and it is fast and eliminated 90% of all my game lag. Again build your own. I can even help ya find aprts and give you advice on how to assemble it.

I've attempted building a computer with my brother, first time for both of us. Didn't go to well, although I did learn some stuff. It's just not something I want to try again. The first time we had gotten some bad parts, but weren't able figure out on our own which one(s) was bad, so ended having a local comp shop finish it.

I appreciate your input.

I think Dell is okay. According to Acer Windows 7 will be out on October 23, 2009. Microsoft should give you a coupon upgrade for Windows 7, but so far I have not heard anything. Get Vista and hope Microsoft does the right thing for their customers.

If you don't want to build one, look into ibuypower's PCs. I know somebody that bought one from there. Since you are into games I would get a phenom 940 cpu. Of course, you still need a good video card, ram, etc.

I would strongly consider the Intel i7 Chip (Nehalem). Let the gamers chime in.

both dell and hp have the i7 for under 900, no monitor.
if you watch for the sales it is hard to build a computer for cheaper .
by dsales i mean fat wallett and slick deals to mane 2.
dell has reconditioned 17 for under 600 in thier used section, however they are all the older i7.
the new dell tower i7 has a bigger power supply and is much better overall.
the video cards that come with the dells are not suitable for gaming, but you can watch the sales and pick up a good video card for 100.
i was going to get an i7 for everday use, but that may be overkill , a quad core is probablt what i will get, a good quad core can be built for under 500. there is a wiki on slick deals that gives the step by sterp to build a quad core.
they say the i7 are more tricky to build

I believe the Intel i5 will be released in September of 2009.

PC World article states that Windows 7 upgrades will cost $49.99. If you purchase a computer at Best Buy on June 26 and the Windows 7 launch day, there is a customer guarantee that Windows 7 will be free.

this past winter i searched internet weeks. the best deal i found http://cgi.ebay.com/INTEL-E8400-DUAL...3A1%7C294%3A50

i added a seagate 750 ghz, hd. corsair 4 ghz memory w/tigerdirect rebate, xfx gt9500 video card w/tigerdirect rebate.

micromagic has a good configurator.

as you can see the parts i bought can easily be installed.

its best system i've ever had. although i think a stick ram is beat, but it has a lifetime warrenty.

the best part in the system i choose would have to be the powerlake 500 psu. this pc is silent even with four fans.

For a gaming machine take a look at the GeForce GTX 280 or maybe the GeForce GTX 295 .
