If he were still alive at the ripe age of 440, Galileo would have been a great witness at the Minnesota Legislature's stem cell debate.

In the early 1600s, the Inquisition went after Galileo for using science and a new technology called the telescope to say that the Earth revolved around the sun.

Cardinal Bellarmine was incensed. He wrote, "To affirm that the sun really is fixed in the center of the heavens and that the earth revolves with great speed around the sun, is a very dangerous thing, not only by irritating all the philosophers and scholastic theologians, but also by injuring our holy faith and rendering the Holy Scriptures false."

Galileo was threatened with prison and finally sentenced to house arrest, where he died. The church apologized 12 years ago
