just give me one & i'll ruin it. working in the metal shop trashes everything. i had my last chair 3yrs and it was stupid ruined, aggrivatingly so. i'm suprised they hold up to his workouts alone! Steve.

on a side note, these zr's do appear more durable than aluminum chairs. with that said, ill prob run the new one for 3 years instead of my normal 2. .

Dealing with DME's and Insurance companies always sucks. But you should change your thread title to Insurance Companies Suck. The DME's are just covering their own ass.

2 years for your ZR? I knew a guy that got a new POWERCHAIR every year! Don't ask me how he did it, but he did. That's where my first powerchair came from 16 years ago....a year-old hand-me-down. Every year he'd pass his old one along to another quad he knew.

In reality some of us have it pretty nice. I have been driving a 1970 model car for the past 16 years that has over 200,000 miles and use a manual Quick-Silver chair made by E&J. It is stainless steel, 35 pounds and has been holding up since 1984. Needed a couple weld jobs but does it really matter what it looks like, I'm the one using it and yeah, a good workout!

Oldtimer,

If they are not injured, your shoulders are probably pretty strong from pushing that beast. If you switched to a lighter chair you would probably feel like you were flying. To each his own though.

the dme's are idiots and greedy bastards. get this. the first one i went through wanted 1000 down b4 ordering, i told them to shove it. thi is the kicker, just this week i got my hands on their original quote to my ins company from them. ill give just one example. they were trying to charge my ins 1800 for spinergy lx wheels, then turn around and charge me./ well guess what, big mistake. they wont be doing business w/ anthem here very soon. they all up charge but that was over the top, there was 4 other items like that on there. they are in for a surprise. i could give a shit less about them fucking the ins but then trying to get me too. not going to happen.

Damn, I sit corrected. I've never had one try to screw me like that. Or should I say, that I KNOW of.Seriously, I've had them upcharge(their idea, not mine) the insurance company so I wouldn't have to pay the co-pay.

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is onto these scams. I get weekly emails of big DME companies being slapped with million/billion dollar fines because of things like what happened to you. It is fraud. Some company CEO's are even being sentenced to jail time. Florida has been hit especially hard. I think they have been doing this way too long. However, the fines don't help those who have been made to pay their prices. It is illegal for them to not charge you your copay as well. Because if they do it for you, they have to do it for every payor type.

I agree with fuente... due to my association with Marvel as a rep, I know general numbers/percentages that the DMEs are making (which I can't discuss, so don't ask). Just take a look at pricing on Sportaid for a fully loaded ZR vs. what TiLite's order form has for the suggested pricing... insurance costs are so high b/c the claims are so high. Yes, insurance companies are a PITA at times, but they're ultimately not the primary source of the problem.
