Shipping Suggestions for EasyStand
Hi everyone! Last weekend I was lucky enough to find a spectacular deal on an Easystand 5000 for my father. The only problem is that I live in Oregon and my parents live in Colorado. I had planned on bringing the stand with me when I visit in late May but my parents don't want to wait that long as my dad's legs are starting to become harder to manipulate, even with daily exercise. So we are discussing shipping.
I called UPS and talked to the regional Freight manager and he gave me a $400 quote to ship it to Denver, which is still about an hour away from my parents and pretty inconvenient, not to mention the cost. I haven't yet started to call around to other places. I'm just wondering if other people have shipped EasyStands and how they accomplished it and what the general cost was. Thanks for the help! |

freight company's, but you'll have to know weight, box dementions because it will need to be "boxed or crated...I ended up paying $140 from Oregon to here in Oklahoma via greyhound because the showerchair I bought needed a big box but didn't meet the weight which the freight company said was 100 pounds...much luck...judy

I shipped an Easy Stand 5000 w/drive option for about 40 bucks,ups.
Take it apart, the vertical stuff/seat. Leave the four wheels and base intact. This is the footprint of the box, put the other stuff in with it. I wrapped foam around/between the pieces that touched and taped it all together in one piece and slid it into the box. Don't let ups bullshit you, they are BAD for that. I shipped from TN to Ohio. I'm tired of ups' crap, my last and future items will be sent USPS. If you need me to elaborate on anything, holler.

CapnGimp-How did you get around the weight issue? That thing is going to weigh at least 80 lbs and even if we dissassemble most everything, some of it is just going to be so bulky that the box would be too big (at least according to their shipping info on their website).
I'm thinking about taking it almost completely apart and shipping it piece by piece!

mine wasn't that heavy, and fit in a reasonably small box(homemade). I bought it in 96 when I lived in Houston. It had the 12in front wheels driven by belt, and the 'handle you propelled yourself was about 12" diameter also. I don't think it weighed 40 lbs. Boxed it and loaded it into my truckbed myself.
Let me look for the pics I took for them..... brb There ya go, that's what I shipped.... ps handcycles ship cross-country for 100. I huge LONG box for the frame and another for the wheels. Methinks your contact was trying to make money... or just dumb, lol.

DHL will take a box of up to 50 lb., and will pick up from your home. If you can disassemble it and put parts in two different boxes, you should be OK. I found DHL much easier to use than UPS when shipping something similiarly bulky and heavy a couple of years ago.

I've shipped stuff that weighed over 100lbs. with UPS in the past so that shouldn't be a problem. You do have to watch the size, especially length (I think it's around 52" you don't want to exceed). |

I think ups takes packages under 150lbs. Over 150 it's shipped ups freight.
