Went to see both "Beginners" and "Buck" this weekend.
"Buck" is the true story of an amazing man who is a real horse whisperer (had a large role in the movie of that same name by Robt. Redford a few years ago). See this movie even if you are not a "horsey" person. Well made, and gives you great insight into the story of a gifted but unassuming man who understands a lot about horses and their owners. "Beginners" had a wonderful performance by Christopher Plummer, and a great dog (who I would have liked to have seen more). It is about a man whose father "comes out" as gay after he is widowed in his 80s, and his relationship with his son when he is dying. It is a great story about fathers and sons, and not just a story about being gay. I also finally got to see "Topsy Turvey" on DVD. I had been waiting for this film for some time on Netflix and it finally was released. I always like Mike Leigh films, and this did not disappoint. It is about Gilbert and Sullivan and their collaboration and rivalry, focused on the period when they wrote and produced "The Mikado". (KLD) |
