I saw daybreakers last night and I really enjoyed it. It was a fresh and new way of telling the same vampire story. They take it where no other vampire movie has gone. If you like an action movie with a crazy story check it out.

"Fresh"
Description on Netflix is not really accurate. It is about a 12 year old boy named "Fresh", who is a runner for drug dealers, but this story is not predictable. I didn't read reviews before watching this film, so I was very impressed with the tone and surprised by some of the story. The main character, Fresh, gives an extremely good performance. Some critics' comments (can link from netflix) are more descriptive: Here's a movie filled with drama and excitement, unfolding a plot of brilliant complexity, in which the central character is solemn and silent, saying only what he has to say, revealing himself only strategically. ... Guns have made our cities unsafe for children. What "Fresh" does is bring a new perspective to those facts, in the form of both drama and thriller. This is not an action film, not a clever, superficial thriller, but a story of depth and power, in which the dangerous streets are seen through the eyes of a 12-year-old who reacts with the objectivity he has learned from chess, and the anger taught to him by his life. (Ebert) A stylish, affecting, ingeniously plotted first feature in which a 12-year-old black kid, beset by drug-dealers, a junkie sister, and his clean-living aunt, struggles to put his life in order by means of lessons he's learned from his chess-playing dad. Yakin never settles for the easy, last-minute moralising and macho posturing that has afflicted much of the otherwise intriguing new black cinema; here, story and character take priority, helped no end by Nelson's quiet, riveting central performance. Chick, I loved Fresh when it first came out, and recently got it again on Netflix. Highly recommended!
I saw A Single Man today (not A Serious Man, which I saw a couple of months ago). It was a very different role for Colin Firth, a cameo role for Julianna Moore (who is always interesting), and a heartbreaking and heart felt film. I would also recommend this. (KLD) |

It's Complicated... I get bored with Merryl Streep's dramatic stand, but it was a hilarious movie! Specially with Baldwin's eyes *Sigh*... *Sigh*
And the laptop scene is priceless.

The Single Man previews looked really good and I've been wanting to see it.
I saw MOON, starring Sam Rockwell. The story surprised me, because I had no idea what was going to happen, going into it. This is a good thing! Rockwell does an amazing job. I recently saw the documentary Tyson, which I recommend as well. I think, fan or not, there's a lot to be heard and appreciated. He does not make any excuses. Year one and it was okay. Probably a 6.5/10

free bootleg copy of Avatar with with Russian subtitles. (please note I do NOT advocate nor do I purchase copyright-infringed movies. This one one a military member found overseas and left at an airport). It made us interested enough in the movie to actually get out to the theater and watch it.
