Timberrrr!

I hope none of your decorations got broken. Watching the tree comes down is just awful. That happened to us one time when one of our cats wanted to climb the tree to get at the gingerbread men we hung on the tree.

I had spent days making cute little gingerbread men to hang on a completely edible tree. My oldest son was just a toddler at the time so I didn't want the temptation of the shiny glass ornaments that might break and hurt him.

I worked for weeks to make and hang candy garlands and popcorn balls wrapped in colorful cellophane with ribbons, and colored rice krispie marshmallow treat shapes, and of course the famous (in our house only) gingerbread man cookies.
I didnt know that one of our cats was crazy about gingerbread cookies.

I got up Christmas morning to find the great gingerbread man massacre. That cat had pulled all of the little g.b.man bodies off of the lower branches of the tree leaving only little g.b.man heads hanging on the tree. The little headless g.b.man bodies were half devoured and laying scattered under the tree. Horrors!

I cleaned up the mess and moved the surviving gingerbread men to higher branches. (Big mistake I was soon to learn.) I sent the cat to the back porch for a while so we could have our Christmas morning opening presents and making brunch. Later in the morning my brother came over to share brunch with us and hearing the pitiful cries of the cat on the back porch let him in to the house.

That crazy cat went straight for the tree. He climbed up the tree in an effort to get at the gingerbread men on the higher branches. His weight toppled the whole tree over onto my poor little son who was sitting right beside the tree. The cat panicked and started tearing around the room, my son panicked smothered by the tree and started screaming, and my evil brother just stood there laughing at all of the chaos he had inadvertantly created.

That is the story of the great gingergread man massacre and the year the tree fell over. I think having the Christmas tree fall over happens to everyone at least once. Just adds to the memories.

Merry Christmas Adrian. May God bless you and yours in the new year.

It happened here last night too. The cats were trying to climb the tree. Happely I had been putting no breakable ornaments on, only plastic and glitter and some homemade things the children had made when they was small. So no catastrophy.

My tree is not the most nice tree this year, but I am happy I didn't destroy all my nice ornaments. Some of it is from before I was born because I took everything with me when my father died.

My cats used to pull down the tree too, or scatter the ornaments all over the floor. This year my tree is on the other side of my glass door and beyond their reach!

The small black one is really naughty. She is looking at me before she does anything she knows she is not allowed to do.
I have a box here from Addiesue with choclates and she came and stole on chocolate out of the box and letting it on the floor. And know she is walking around with the chocolate in her mouth, looking very proud
