You snow living people are a lot tougher then me. Just getting all those clothes on could wear a person out.
Out here on the west coast its all about the rain. I know what you mean about slow return. I work my legs 4 to 6 hours almost every day. If I worked out that much pre injury, would be one muscled guy. Like Revis said, best to compare ones self to after injury, not from before injury. Finally moved into the garage to ride my hand cycle. Not as much fun as on the road, but keeps one heart beating fast. And theres always movies. Road for a good hour, then finished up the movie on the stationary bike inside. Ps how do you make both pics show up.

Snowshoe Freedom
As I've recovered over the past year-and-a-half, I've declared 'freedom' days when I've been able to reclaim portions of my life lost in the tornado. I hate to admit, but Starbucks Freedom Day has been the most fun so far!
Yesterday, with 8 inches of snow, I gave the snowshoes a try. We have a level side yard and I did 10 rounds of that, almost a third of a mile. It went really well. If I had to gauge, I'd say that walking feels about 40% normal to me right now but snowshoeing is upwards of 90% normal. I don't feel any more awkward than I did before. Tired out a bit sooner, but that's to be expected. Today, will try a longer stint at the park, on more uneven trails. Revis, I'm amazed that you can do a mile-and-a-half with snowshoes. Do you realize that half the able-bodied population would not be able to do that? I know that things are hard for you and that it probably feels far from normal, but you're really doing very well. You'll continue to recover, I'm sure and gain strength. Then, it won't seem like such a challenge anymore and those walks in the snow will be sheer joy. Have a great day, everyone! |

Well the sun came back after are monsoon rains. Went for a very nice 1.5 hour ride. So me and my wife love to watch the football playoffs. This is how one exercises while on the couch. Laying on ones back, hold your legs together with your arms and try to pull your legs apart. While sitting hold up a knee and try to move your foot left and right. Lay on one hip and put your top foot on your bottom leg, and try to use your muscles around your hips to pull your knee up. For gluts, one can lean forward, then concentrate on your gluts to pull yourself back up. Butt scrounges while sitting. Also with a walker, try to walk backward with out leaning forward. Be creative. There are many more exercises on can do while sitting. O and enjoy the game.

Lots of treadmill over the past few days, an hour yesterday, 40 mins so far today. I've also been working on standing yoga poses. I can hold a few of them without holding on to anything. Never thought that would happen. There don't seem to be enough hours in the day. I should be doing abs every day and other things but can't seem to fit it all in. Laughing a bit here....this is nothing new. Was this way before injury, too. Have a healthy and comfortable weekend, everyone.

Yesterday three hours working out legs at home. Then a very fun 19 mile hand cycle ride. Came home and rode my stationary bike, hard as I can, for and hour. Of course an hour and a half of abductor workout watching a movie at night. It sure is wonderful to be able to move ones body. Keep on moving on.

I got back out with the handcycle after my 2 month hiatus. Felt good. I was in slightly lower gears, but on the whole, I was happy with the ride. And I remember how to shift, which is always a thrill whenever I've had to take a break from cranking.

Nice job, Katia! I believe you're recovering from surgery? I'm glad you're back on your handcycle. You know it'll take a bit to condition back to where you were, but you can do it!
