Went to gym for pull-ups, chin-ups, dumbell shoulder presses, 20 mins on the recumbant exercise bike and 100 reps on the lay-down leg press. Pleased that shoulders are getting better (slowly), was able to do some wide chin-ups for first time in months.

I'm doing better. I think it's because I've gone back to taking one 300mg gabapentin around 11:00 AM each day. Plus, I think I've just gotten more used to the cold. I can still stiffen up in the evening, usually around dinner time if I've done a lot and if I go outside. We should exchange some emails/messages about your return to OR. Would love to hear how it went for you.

Grommet, that's a lot of working out. I can't believe you are doing pull-ups. That is progress!

Time to go blow snow and shovel some more!

Hey Revis :-)

I don't envy you on the Neurontin unless it's helping. That was the worst experience I've had with a med, eek. Regarding the pull-ups, I've been going to the gym for four years now and couldn't do one when I started. Regular workouts have given me real progress (though it's hard to see while it's happening). I don't have an SCI. My neuro stuff causes pain and especially, when my brain is in the mood, nerve pain. Since I have pain everyday, feeling the pain from exercise makes me feel better about it. It's just a psychological boost I guess but it helps me. Sitting around feeling pain for no reason makes me crazy.

Luckily I haven't had a bad bout of nerve pain in a while, just general stuff. When the nerve stuff hits it's bloody awful. I am very glad I found a way to exercise. Took a lot of creativity and patience and some pain but I'm doing alright. :-)

Back to the gym after a layoff for surgery just after Christmas.

Incline bench press, overhead press, seated rows, biceps, triceps, a bunch of crunches on the bosu, and 10 minutes on the recumbent bike. I'm trying to get to my first pull up.

Only a half-mile on the treadmill today and at a low speed. I kinda overdid it this week and need a rest. I'm still trying to get used to the new reality of how slowly a person with SCI recovers....from any physical gain. Seems very hard-won. Oh well.

Happy winter to everyone in white world territory. It's finally caught up with us. I'd love to go to the gym tomrrow but daren't risk it unless hubby escorts me...that is, until this latest snow clears up.

January....gotta love it. Really...gotta love every day!

Back in the racing chair yesterday. I only pushed 5 miles, and am really feeling it today. Yesterday was in the mid-50s, but we had killer winds - at one point I was pushing on a long downhill into a headwind and my speed was a whopping 5mph.

Like truly, I'm finding that walking is really taking it out of me - I seem to be tired and pain all the time (when everyone around me is popping the champagne corks).

Snow dumped on us this week here in N. Idaho. At least 24" total in three days. Was able to snow shoe about a mile and a half up and down the little mountain in front of our house. Forgot my camera, so no pix...sorry. Definitely tired. Dinner out and then stiff and in pain. Seems like the combo of workout and cold always results in that.

I'm with you, Truly, all gains are hard-won. Even when gains are made it's too tempting to compare ourselves to pre-injury days. I try to force myself to compare where I am now to the days right after my injury. Not always successful in that, but I try. It's also hard to get to the gym in the snow...removing snow has been my gym this last week.

Snow in Boise has finally allowed the local ski area, Bogus Basin, to open! It wasn't the first day of the year for me, but it sure is a great core workout bouncing turns in the soft new snow! Rehab baby!

Went to swim practice this morning and took the video camera along.
Hopefully, a real life video will more closely match my mental picture of my swimming someday.

Freestyle,Backstroke and breaststroke. Starting into year number two of lap swimming.

GL, spent an hour before swim practice moving a foot of new WET snow to get out of the driveway.
My poor old sportsman 500 got a much harder workout than I. Wouldn’t even try doing this with a shovel!
