Riian, if your just looking for a passive leg mover, it will do that job. The foot rests are crap, but with enough extra velcro, it will keep your feet in place. As an upper-body excerciser, with quad hands, itīs a disaster. Iīm not sure about how your health insurance works in S.A., but if you could, try and get a Thera-Vital approved through them. There is a distributer in S.A. You can email or call them for more info. http://home.global.co.za/~dhtgo/

Click on Therapy Trainers on the left to see a Thera Vital system. Itīs light years better than the trainer your looking at, but it is also quite expensive if you have to pay for it yourself.

Thumbs up Motomed

I was lucky to find / buy used Motomed about 1 year ago and as C6 Incomplete (6 years so far) , I can say that every cent was paid off ($ 2400 with shipping);
Few minutes ago I finished my daily training which increased about 45 minutes to 1 hour of total use with up to 65% of my pushing an 35% machine turning my legs. I achieved 2 km "distance" on my own (computer shows values); Most of the time I am using Gear 1 and now moving to 20 - 30% turning with Gear 2.
When I start - that was only 5% of me and 95% machine turning my legs.
My sensory and muscles volume increased and I can start to feel and push into my feet

I was reading about Pat Rumerfield and he claims that turning point in his recovery was construction (in 70s was no such a thing ) and use of "electrical training bike" ...

God help us!

The Motomed has an advantage over the Thera-Vital system in that it is much easier to get your feet in and out of the leg trainer by yourself. If I remember right, you can adjust the Motomed so the foot pedals turn slowly and then will stay secured at the "six and twelve oīclock" positions, allowing you to easily add or remove your foot from the pedals and secure or open the velcro straps. The Thera-Vital doesnīt have this feature and itīs a bitch getting your second leg into the damn thing on your own and securing your footing when the pedals are always out of position. I have an older model...perhaps the newer ones got rid of that developmental brain cramp. Iīm saying this as a quad of course ...for paras it probably isnīt much of a factor.
