Screwed up priorities

Screwed up priorities.
It's crazy how screwed up our societies priorities are. Check out these figures for movies and hockey players. Why is so much money spent on entertainment?

Estimated ticket sales for weekend of May 10-12:
Spider-Man - $72 million
Unfaithful - $14.2 million
The New Guy - $9.5 million
The Scorpion King - $4.4 million
Changing Lanes - $3.5 million
Murder by Numbers - $2.3 million
The Rookie - $2.1 million
Panic Room - $1.5 million
Ice Age - $1.4 million
Life or Something Like It - $1.3 million

The 10 most wealthy hockey players:

1- MESSIER, MARK 49,485,102 $ (1) 0
2- GRETZKY, WAYNE 43,268,428 $ (2) 0
3- YZERMAN, STEVE 42,912,790 $ (4) +1
4- JAGR, JAROMIR 42,127,560 $ (7) +3
5- ROY, PATRICK 40,809,834 $ (5) 0
6- LINDROS, ERIC 39,817,000 $ (3) -3
7- HULL, BRETT 39,741,000 $ (6) -1
8- SAKIC, JOE 39,288,239 $ (9) +1
9- BURE, PAVEL 38,259,794 $ (11) +2
10- HASEK, DOMINIK 36,525,300 $ (12) +2

What an insane amount of money!

Re: Hockey Players salaries

This is exactly why I no longer find an interest in professional sports!! How can they justify paying ANYONE this kind of money just to play a game.

There is no way a guy in tights is worth $72 million just to watch. And all this while science and the real arts go underfunded and unappreciated. This is one of the reasons I really miss living in Europe. I'm American to the core but I prefer ballet tickets I can afford to shelling out over $100 a seat for football and that doesn't include the $6 beers. No wonder our pro-atheletes do drugs. WWhat else costs enough to warrant these kind of salaries?
