not sure how you deduced i was in fear of the process. quite the opposite. I am very excited about it and i've been practicing for a while on short steps (only 4-8 high). to date, no problems without a seat belt. i can pull myself up the top step just fine with my right arm. it's more like a push on the top of the rail, than a pull, actually, with a little hip thrown in at the end. regardless, it's not difficult enough to warrant a seat belt, IMO. i was merely pointing out that the chair falling to the bottom is a much better situation than the para tumbling down with it, while strapped to the chair, even if it's a rare occurrence. once would be enough for me, thanks.

Would anyone here interested in a stair-climbing personal mobility device I'm designing? It will climb almost any stairs/steps pretty quickly, ( close to normal adult climbing speed, ) and could be used in and about the home as well as outside over most terrains. It will be usable by quads as well as paras and those with other limiting conditions, as long as they have reasonably good vision and judgement, because even a sip and puff controller could be made to handle it.

I don't call it a wheelchair because that's too limiting a term, although the configuration is similar to that of a large-wheeled (24" dia) power chair.

It'll be expensive, and since I do not intend to seek FDA certification as a power wheelchair, I doubt insurance companies will reimburse much, if any, of the approx 30k price.

Would there be much interest in such a device?
