stimulite contour cushion?
I am sick of roho hp tiliting my pelvis forward making my quad belly look worse and causing me to be less stable [also there's the sweating issue]. I am curious after doing some research on the stimulite contour xs if it causes those problems for anyone. Thanks!

yeah I read your posts, but do you have a bony butt? I do and when I've been too skinny I have developed a couple pressure spots. I also think I need the help with stability support.

i have a contour xs (2 actually) and i love them. i have the boniest butt you'll every come across and they leave my backside looking great after long stints. i use roho hp 4 valve cushions as primary and use the stimmies on my SUV chair and my basketball chair. either off tarmac in the local state parks or on the court pushing my arse off i don't have sweating issues with either. they run very cool.
couple of issues: 1) i had to trim mine to make 15x16 since they don't manufacture one. i called them and they said trimming is OK and that is why they dont make a 15x16 since they are designed to be trimmed on the front and the sides to customize the fit, if needed. 2) i mapped good on both roho and stimmy but it was 'best' with the roho - so for my bony tush the roho is better and is primary everyday unless i'm gonna be outside heat. 3) with autumn upon us and winter around the corner i like that the roho sits hotter, since i can feel hot/cold the stimmy can get too cold with a stiff breeze in cooler weather!.

I went from JayXtreme to Roho, and hate the compromise in tability, esp. when transferring or when needing to scoot butt fwd to cath, and when leg falls off it gets pulled down due to no support under thigh/knee. But need the support under my boney rear, esp. due to hip issues (but this also causes greater instability on roho - bleh).
Anyway, I use the Quadtro Select. You? It hasn't helped that much, but I need to use the locking valve more to try adjustments. This may help your sitting better than air moving throughout cushion. Once your sitting back, then lock valve so your depressed more in rear. This should help limit air from shwooshing around as much and allow more stability. Also, check your back, make sure your rear is as far back as possible, and lumbar isn't curved, tilting pelvis fwd. If yu have a hard back, and can raise it some to allow some space inbtwn cushion and back, your hips may be able to sit back further and keep you positioned better -- BUT not to raise too much or at all if your back becomes too high as this may also push your upper chest/shoulders fwd and restrict movement and/or balance. I was just thinking about alternives to roho - something with enuff cushion but w/greater stabilty. Not sure what good choices are. In the Roho Group, you can see they have the Harmony. Have you considered that? I'm not sure how high the air cells are. I'm unsure about anything less than 3". I'd like to try Low Profile, but am wary of how much support it'll give. It looks like hardly anything. For now, I'd rather compromise some stability for greater protection (never had real sore on butt, so not want one now!) I've not had problems with heat using roho, even when very how here. Maybe try different seat cover?? Daleb, thx for your review, it kind of steers me away from it, as an everyday, as I'm wary about thee stiffness. I was considering Stimulite, but am hesitant about the foam aspect of it (is it kinda like those foam mattresses that mold to body?) How would this distribute cushion support thru bones on seat, and if not doing much pressure relief, would it remain pretty stiffly formed in fixed position, once compressed? |

Chick-
Stimulites do not have foam...they have a honeycomb material. It does not form to your body like memory foam. It is also not so stiff if you go with the XS version of the cushion. My fiance has a very boney butt, and he switched from a high profile roho to the Stimulite classic XS and has had no issues and he likes it better. I have been on Stimulites for a while now and I would not use anything else. Let me know if you have any questions.

The attached image shows the Stimulite material well; the bottom cushion is a Classic XS. Standard foam is in the middle. The top (blue) sheet is a single 3/4" layer of the honeycomb. You can easily see the differences in density. It's good stuff.
