So Pi**ed off

I just need to come here and vent ppl.
Andrew and I went to our new pain doc on Tues. (our phyisiatrist (sp?) doesn't want to do our pain mgmt)
Apparently my Neuro got popped for not making his Pts. sign narc. contracts, so he is no longer in practice.

Anyway, this guy can blatantly see we are both paralyzed and in pain, but treated us like we were drug hunters or something. The room is so small it can't accommodate a wheelchair. This morons exam table is 4' high and he made us climb up on it without help, so now my back has been screaming at me eversince. He also thought I was faking my pain to get my medications that I've been on for 3 years and wanted to know who I've been getting them from. I nearly had to beg to get my refills. Granted I'd like to get off the Morphine but I'd rather not go through withdrawals to do it!

But poor 'ol Andrew. He had all his records from the hospital and rehab, is to the point where he is ready to shoot himself in the head because of the pain, and was almost in tears in the docs office, and the jerk has the gal to say "he needs proof he in pain"! What the f*#k do these doctors want? Pts to commit suicide to prove how much we can't stand the pain we are in?

I feel so bad for Andrew. I have another appointment Oct 7 and I plan on going off on that A**hole about how he treated him and if that screws me up, oh well, it'll be well worth it. I'll just go somewhere else. I don't want to see a doc who treats his AB pt's like humans but his gimp pts like 4 year olds. 3 other AB ppl in the waiting room told us how wonderful he was, so evidently I'm not wrong in my thinking there.

Thanks for letting me vent...I could go on but I don't want to keep chewing you guys ear off,,, LOLOL

Not implying that you did something you shouldn't have. Just meant that I'd tell him to shove it. He shouldn't have even asked.

What can I say, the medical profession has it's share of jerks. I sincerely hope you can find a more suitable replacement and fire this idiot.

Carolina--this shows me just how fortunate I have been to have a rheumatologist for my lupus who knows and has the experience to tell who's gaming and who's hurting, I have had access to any pain meds I need in huge quantities, (to cut down on co-pays he prescribes "as needed" and would write me 3 mo worth) But he also told my wife he could tellI was a nonaddictive person and could get me off anything he got me on. I feel badly to have this ability and hear others, like yourself hurting so bad. He has helped me understand pain and which meds cut what, wish help like that was avaibl. on net. Because he treats fibro, lupus, and arthritis, he has everyday experience.
Good luck, but how are you gonna hold out till Oct?

No way could I have gotten on that exam table, and the only revenge I can think of would be to make the doofus lift you himself. Sorry about your crummy treatment. Is there another place you could go that might have a broader understanding of pain/disability issues?

The rehab place I go to is great. Maybe when he finds out how the pain doc treated Andrew and I he will decide to take over our pain management and we wont have to worry about it anymore. The physiatrist (sp?) I had up in Wisconsin did my pain management so maybe this one will too.

As Bette Lou Hamilton showed, suicide would do nothing to convince skeptics that patients are in pain. She was the pain patient who saw Kevorkian after 10 procedures for pain. She had central pain, left a beautiful description of it, and the doc in the Michigan hospital who took her DOA said he doubted she was in pain.

The ONLY thing that will convince the doc is if he/she gets a capsaicin injection and studies TRPV1 channels. Until then, your insurance has more to do with believing you than your words, in too many instances.

I am a little troubled by the increasing use of blocks for central pain. I am not convinced it is rational therapy. As the PMR docs move into pain management, and the three blocks typically done by them continue to be well reimbursed, it seems more people are trying them. I still haven't seen any data to show that a block works on central pain. On the other hand, facet sydrome went badly underdiagnosed until PMR started giving the medial branch blocks and related blocks. The ones inside the epidural space are dangerous if the medicine gets into the vessels because locals cause vasospasm with stroke or death. I think most PMR are using only steroids to avoid the risks posed by local anesthetics.
