That's so sad! I didn't realize they could take someone off the ventilator that wasn't in a vegetative state? I was always under the impression that it was only an option if thee person was brain dead, and has a health care directive (or whatever that form is called). I guess maybe I've never heard of a case like this.

I think it plays into the idea that people are allowed to make their own decisions about their lives and bodies.

her choice. shows courage. i wouldnt want to be a vent quad either

let me expand. i said i wouldnt want to be like that. like vijs, those are my wishes per my living will.

every crip should have an up to date living will. my fiance just did hers as well. everyone should have one

That's a bit harsh. Unfortunately, none of us get to choose our injuries.

We're all individuals and maybe we should reserve judgement.

If someone is conscious and capable of making decisions regarding their own medical treatment, then they always have the right to refuse that treatment even if it is keeping them alive. It seems more harsh if the person immediately passes away, but the alternative would be forcing treatment on an unwilling patient.

The judgement will be on the ones hampering advancements to fix SCI. Any who do not race to fix it.
