Paralympics

Do they still show the Paralympics on TV? Several years ago, they showed the winter Paralympics on A&E, but I haven't seen them televised since.

In Athens, there was some televised on Canadian television (can you get any of that in Seattle?) but none in the USA. I haven't heard anything yet about anything in the USA this time; even a short "highlights" show would be better than nothing!

Here are a few things I found through Google:

http://www.disabled-world.com/artman...alympics.shtml

http://www.bjreview.com.cn/olympic/t...tent_77967.htm

Looks like the Aussies' may have some decent coverage too:

http://www.abc.net.au/corp/pubs/media/s2284065.htm

As usual, the USA is far behind. I guess the networks decided that PWD don't have the money to spend on their commercial sponsors' products (noticed all the car ads in the Olympic coverage???).

I probably missed any information on this. William

I am hoping to be on the exhibition team for women's sled hockey for the 2010 Paralympics. If that does well, then women's sled hockey would be a paralympic sport in 2014.

As far as televisiing the Paralympics, I do not know (other than what was already posted) that there is any coverage in the US. I know a lot of other countries do show the Paralympics, and some give extensive coverage. If the US is so progressive, how come we cannot do the same? We see all sorts of sports from the Olympics but none from the Paralympics? Sad.

I agree. Its getting pretty boring watching volleyball, gymnastics, and swimming that are on the Olympics right now. My Mom, who is also my caregiver, has been turning them on everytime she comes to get me ready for bed and watching them when she's washing dishes or waiting for laundry to get done.

I'd settle for what is now accessible in China due to the Paralympics. I saw one entry way on the Great Wall and the cable car up to it are wheeler accessible. It looked like you roll down the ramp to an overlook that has a huge view once you're up there. Check out Samantha Brown's Passport to China and Wild China on either the Travel Channel or WealthTV.

I got to the top of the Acropolis and was able to see the Parthenon up close because of access created for the Athens 2004 Paralympics. For those who live there all the city buses and about 90% of country's ferries are now accessible. It took a lot of web searching until I found the write up of how to get to the accessible entrance of the Acropolis written by a double amputee weightlifter. Beijing is now a major tourist stop so knowing what is accessible would be nice.

Here is where you will be able to see 24/7 Paralympic on-line coverage:

www.paralympicsport.tv

Sponsored by Samsung, which sounds like it would be a good company for PWD to support with their business!!!
