What helps/works for your pain, need help

I am running into nothing but road blocks here. (I am higher C-spine than I knew, somehow that was kept from me) To let you know, I have crap coverage(really they will pay for hydrocodone and baclefin and basic antibiotics), they do not pay for my lyrica, prevacid, duregesic, no therapies(because I had months and months worth prior to this coverage, oh yeah, that is their reason. I did not have this coverage at that time). It is very very limited at what will cover for me. Strangely, even with the needs I have and family, I cannot get SSI nor medicaid. So, I am stuck.
The neurologist, has said we can do this this or this. Including a steriod shot(not sure where that will help the damaged nerves causing the pain, this the coverage will pay for). He has talked about nerve blockers, baclofen pump(I have taken baclocen and did not do so well) botox which, being a walker, I assume would be very dangerous for me. The "insurance" won't cover anything like this anyway.
I have to be on a strict schedule just to manage and some points, I have to take more.
I have tried duregesic but had very bad adverse reactions to them and turns out I am allergic.
I am in my 30's and am concerened if I am already having to take so much say, when I am 50 how will that affect my systems?
The drs. around here well not so much on the up of things, really .
How do you manage?
What do you take?
What can be done different?
If you are years(I am 3) out, has anything been damaged i.e. kindey, stomach?
Is there anything that helps or hurts in your diet?
I need some help and advice as I am learning, I actaully have to "train and educate" my drs.

just some general info for you

Everyone's pain is different so treatment will always vary. Unfortunately, treatment is always expensive. I also don't have the greatest health coverage so I've been forced to seek alternative ways to make my treatment affordable. I purchase all of my scripts from Canada. They are much cheaper and you can get generics that are not available in the states. It saves me a lot of money. You can do a google search and check the prices. Check it out. My doctor knows I do this and he's fine with it.

I will be the first to answer this but I may not be able to remember everything. As far as narcotics go, I've tried Percocet which helped the first four months I was taking it, OxyContin which again only helped the first four months I was taking it and then it did nothing, Dilaudid in my baclofen pump with very little effect, Xanax helps take the edge off on days when my pain is just out of control, I've tried all the non-narcotic stuff with Neurontin being the main thing that helps right now. Other than that, I've just learned to live with the pain. I'm eight years post but all the patterns related to human duty and cold have gone out the window.

I hear you about crap coverage, my SCI and the financial mess has wiped us out and I have to check on costs for everything as I average $1000+ per month between my wife and I in meds.

I'm 5 years out and so far nothing helps.

I believe its mind over matter.

I'm 8 years out, c6/7 + L3.

I used to take pain killers T4s plus 1600mg of neuronton a day. I cut all of that out (took a good 2 years) and I feel the same. My secrete is keeping busy, focus your mind on tasks like work, projects, family. For this reason, I have a full time job, 2 part time jobs, i own my own company, 1 special project on the go, and i letter comic books as a hobby job... not mentioning exercise 3 times @ the gym, 2 times @ home and wheelchair rugby once a week. I don't feel the pain most of the time. I feel the pain b4 i go to bed, but, usually I'm so tired by then, I'm asleep asap. and my day starts up @ 5am again. I only take nuronton 100mg on days that are unbearable. (which is not too often)

I believe: Drugs in not a ways to fix things, it only numbs the brain for short amount of time for us to not feel the pain. Why not go the natural way to busy the brain? it's better for our body, give us control, and it might lead to something wonderful...making a difference in your community.

Wow this is a amazing post !
The wet weather or cold weather bothers me alot I been suffering agony from a broken neck when I was 16 and all these years later I rely on my BC powders . / Ice packs on top....
I use to use hydrocodone or other meds but the side effects make me worry with regrets...
When I feel like crap I ask my neighbors elephant to stand on my back
She dont mind it is a matter of time untill I flatten out ... Does anyone do this ?
The only sideeffects from the Elephant hoof step is a thousand pounds on my back but it is so easy a caveman could do it...
