What's better than a thermarest is a big agnes sleeping bag, they don't have insulation on the bottom, instead they have a sleeve in which you insert an inflatable pad, kinda like the ones you use for the water, you can't roll off the pad since it is part of the sleeping bag and you don't compress the insulation making it less effective in a keeping you warm, plus the air pad is so much more comfortable, preinjury I went backpacking yearly on the Appalachian trail got snowed on many times, sure miss it.

Tell us more about what you can do. Can you xfer to the ground? Do you need to be elevated? What kind of sleeping surface do you require? Will you have a caretaker?

I used to have a tent that was big enough for my chair AND two people (I think it was a 6-person tent), which is great because you can fit a commode chair in there and poop without being devoured by mosquitos. Now I juse use a normal tent, transfer to the ground, and leave my chair outside overnight.

There are plenty of larger tents to choose from, though they get a little expensive. Try Craigslist - I'm sure there are plenty for sale in our area.

Do whatever you can to get out there.

this is a double rainbow tarptent, weighs two lbs and easy setup if you can get off the ground, roll your wheelchair next to it and drop down, it has easy access and can fit two people, I have a single rainbow, which actually can fit two people, it is 275 dollars though so it's not cheap, but I've never gotten wet in it. This really a backpacking tent, for car camping, you can get cheaper ones that are more roomy, this'd be good for kayaking.

Theo, another option (depending on your transfer needs) might be a cot tent. I've been thinking about getting a Kamp-Rite Double Tent Cot. It retails for about $275, though the one pictured below was sold used with an asking price of $150.

that cot tent reminded me of the hammock tents a lot of backpackers swear by, adjust it to the height you need and roll up and hop in.

Wow, that hammock tent looks like a good idea. Less likely to be eaten by mountain lions.

I never really got into camping, always kinda figured I'd be pressing my luck doing it. I mean your leg could be being eaten by fire ant's while you where asleep and you would not know it if you could not feel it. Plus the whole thing with the bathroom stuff too.

I admire you all for going for it with camping. I'm still trying to convince my hubby to try a night out in our yard in our big car camping tent. Hopefully we can do that soon.

I don't know, it kinda looks like a feedbag to me!
If you google hammock tent, there are many different designs.
