gjnl has it as far as I'm concerned. What time of the year are you coming? People can get more specific on things to do.

I just came back from Yellowstone and it's great, spent 3 days there lodging in the park, last minute too. The temps were between75 and 55 degrees, weather was beautiful. Went there in the 90's middle of winter, used snowmobiles and tons of bison.

Couple of clarifications on this list:
Statue of Liberty - You will be able to get to the top of the base, but not to the crown unless they have added an elevator to the top. I know up until a few years ago there was not one that far up because of spacing issues. Chicago - Might I suggest Giordano's for local pizza. It can be a bit pricey but you wont walk away disappointed. San Francisco Cable Car - A Note on the MUNI website says Cable car accessibility The historic cable car service is generally not accessible. If you would like more information regarding access to these vehicles or this service, please call SFMTA Accessible Services at 415.701.4485. Muni does provide accessible historic streetcar service on the F Market Line. Golden Gate Bridge - There is a wheelchair accessible footpath to the bridge from the Marin Parking lots. This will also afford you the ability to take a short driving tour thru the Marin Headlands which affords some amazing views Hope I gave you a little info...I was a flight attendant before my injury and have travelled to many cities. Msg if you want more.. |

San Francisco is overrated if you ask me. It smells like urine and the best view of the golden gate bridge is from a photograph. Alcatraz is just a run down old prison, I used to spend a lot of time over there making repairs to the generators and restrooms when I worked for the ferry service that had the contract to carry passengers out there. I understand that it is a huge tourism city, I've just never understood why.
I second Yellowstone. I have cabin on the backside of one of the mountains that borders the park and of the few times that I have been to the park I had great time. Maybe Seattle area instead of SF. There is the Space Needle, pioneer square, Mount Rainier, Ocean Shores, Rosario Beach, Alki Beach, Vashon Island, Blake Island, Pike Place Market, Puyallup Fair, if there at the right time of year, Seattle center, and much much more... |

Have to disagree on the SF Cable Car ride. I rode it many years ago back when I was AB. Remember, it's a "ride" not a practical means of transportation. You have to stand in a long line (or now sit) and, if you are lucky you will get a seat and, since the center isle will be full of people standing and hanging onto straps, you, a sitter, will have someone's butt in your face. Don't ask the person to move since the cable car will be so full, he/she won't be able to move.
Maybe people in a chair get a better seat.

Errrr, I wouldn't recommend Capitol Hill w/o help. Or you can rent a power wheelchair, they fit on the subway.
Chicago has a wonderful art museum and great pizza. This is all my knowledge of Chicago LOL. |
