Any ideas or info?
Not sure this is where I should be posting this. Not SCI related, just thought I'd toss it out there. I have a buddy who is a gypsy carpenter.
He travels with the seasons, working wherever he can. Well he has decided he wants to live up here full time. I bought a rundown hunting camp 8-10 years ago. I only used it the first couple of years for a weekly poker game, and bow hunt there in the fall. He needed a place to stay, so I told him he could stay there for free for the summer. I have been working on it over the years, it was taken over by the mice,so I gutted the thing out. So it's no prize. I do have insurance on the place, but wonder if the liability covers him staying there if he got hurt. Or if he had people over and someone got hurt could I be held responsible. He's a good guy but I worry I may have left myself open to being sued. Should I talk to a lawyer or have him sign a waiver of liaibility(does such a thing exsist?) Just want to make sure I do things right. Anyone have any knowledge in this area? Thanks |

I think since you aren't charging him rent you are okay. Guests are certainly covered under homeowner policies, renting is a different thing.

t8burst is probably right. To be on the safe side, I'd still run your question by a lawyer experienced with real estate/insurance matters in your locale.
