Waiting time for treatment in UK

Lest anybody think that care is better in a socialized medicine setting, here is a little something to ponder:

http://www.doh.gov.uk/waitingtimes/g.../g2000_ran.htm

I was looking up Dr. Carlstedt (I don't really mean to single him out) who works at the National Orthopedic Hospital in London because I was recommending some people to contact him to see if he has advice on reconnecting peripheral nerves to the spinal cord. On the web site, I came across a summary of the time that patients in England have to wait...

There are 2600 patients on the waiting list. Of these 684 wait between 3-5 months just to be seen. Nearly 500 wait between 6 to 12 months. In short, 50% of the patients are not seen within 3 months.
