Dr. Wise...
Here's a pain question I've always asked my doctors and they have more or less told me I'm "nuts" in more professional words.
I've always wanted to ask it here but was afraid if the same result, "she must be nuts ..... " in people words, LOLMaybe this has relation to Central pain that David was speaking of. No feeling lower waist down but from lower waist up I have what I explain it as..... "A man chasing me around zapping me with a live electrical extension cord"It's almost like an electrical current is being applied to the upper portion of my spine, between my shoulder blades. I can hear and feel an intermittent buzz in my head and upper torso. This isn't constant. It comes and goes but can last all day long at times. this is one of those days. I have found no reasons to set it off and was wondering if it may have stemmed from my original injury, (fall down a flight of concrete steps directly on butt compressing spine, etc) or if something more could be going on. It's hard to get the doctors attention when they think your nuts, so I'm going no where with him. I'm an L4-S1 w/permanent Cauda Equina Injury.

jc, let me cogitate on it for a while. I am reading a book about Central Pain that David Berg recommended and it is taking me to a lot of older literature that I wasn't aware of, as well as new theories concerning central pain. I have to say that it is the first time that I have ben told of an auditory component to the pain sensation. I am trying to find out whether this has ever been reported. By the way, I don't think that you are "nuts". Wise.

I'm interested to know what you come to on this Dr. Wise, in part because I have a similar sensation in my lower back, complete with the sensation of hearing it, although not very loudly.

Kewl Jeannette you have it too. (not meaning kewl that you have it, but you know what I mean
) And your right. It's not a very loud sound. It hard to explain really. It's more like a strong enough sensation that you can hear it.

JC,i just wanted to tell you that I BELIEVE YOU TOOOO!!!!!the one huge thing i have found since my SCI and with central is that ANYTHING is possible, just about anything.it IS unbelievable really.i never ever in my life could have imagined that the human body was even capable of creating this level of its own little hell.unbelievable.trying to explain what we feel to anyone, yes, even docs, well you know....just having my cavernoma sitting inside of my spinal cord gave me the sensation that i explained as the feeling like someone was trying to pry off my shouldder blade with a crow bar.that is exactly what it felt like to me.it was also a horrid gnawing pain that wouldn't relent unless i actually got up and just ground my shoulder blade into a really nice solid wall.just that back pressure really helped.it was just bizarre really.i kept waiting for the 'alien' baby to pop out of my shoulder somewhere.icky stuff.after all this,i will and can believe anything that anyone says they are actually feeling.nobody knows but us just how hellish this really can be.a little torture in your day mam??
just a thought here but this area where you are being zapped,is it just always in one spot or does it kind of pick and choose just where it is going to attack you next?i am only asking as i have one particular area on my CP arm that will get kind of what you mentioned(no hearing anything tho)and when i know it is doing its little happy dance that day i will usually place a lidocaine patch over the area and it does bring it down some to a more tolerable attack.just a thought for ya JC.good luck and i hope that little man moves onto someone who could really use a major zap.marcia |

Yeah, it's not so much a "sound" as the feeling of a sound. Which doesn't really make sense, but I'm synaesthetic a bit, and I'm allowed to describe things with the wrong senses.
![]() All sounds have feeling with them, for me. Lightbulbs feel pressing, sunlight is lifting unless it's too hot in which case it's lifting and squeezing. When you grab a laptop charger on the end and you get a little electricity running thruogh you so that your skin is slightly electrified, you feel a little bumble bee like, sort of... uh.. buzzy. The thing in the back is sorta a combination of all that so it feels like pressing, lifting, squeezing and bumblebeelike at the same time, and the sensations that come with it translate into sound, even though you can't actually hear it. I hope that made sense to someone other than just me. |

Do you mean has the synaesthesia changed?
I'll answer in depth after I've slept. I'm heading to bed now. (schedule is all wonky) |

No fs,
Mine is always in the same place. Today is finaly of some releif, the man has finally crawled back into the hole from hence he came. Here is another analogy for Dr. Wise that may describe the sensation a little more. If there has ever been a time you have ever run a really high fever, you know that, tence, electric charge feeling you get? Well x that by 2 and that sorta what I'm going through. How bout you Jeannette
