What are the odds?

So not long ago a friend (married, father of 3) of mine was on his way home from work around 2am..He's killed in head on collision with a drunk driver..Turns out the drunk driver (single,no real family to speak of) is/was (i dont know) also a friend of mine, and of course he survives..They didnt really know each other, but i was close with both, two different people, two different worlds...and the worlds collided.

RYDZIK-Richard, of McLean, SK, passed away tragically on July 9, 2006 at the age of 41 years. Richard was an accomplished outfitter, hunter and fisherman who enjoyed sharing his love of fishing and hunting with his three sons. He will be lovingly remembered by Kathryn, his wife of 20 years, his children Logan, Riley and Lucas; his parents Walter and Joyce; parents-inlaw Herb and Bernice Haus; siblings Julie (Dennis), Louise (John), Arlene (Craig), Vincent (Wanda) and Vivian (Scott) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

That is weird! I ran into a friend I played football with in Florida and then I came back to Georgia. I ran into him thru a girlfriend and his brother had fell out of a tree hunting and is now SCI. I taught him how to go down curbs, steps etc. He became a lawyer and I used him when my son was attacked by a Chow.

That is weird. The guy that was driving the car I was in (which I became a quadriplegic) his sister also became a quadriplegic. Strange.

Shaun, that's so tragic. Also godawful awkward for you. Let us know what happens with the friendship with the drunk driver. It's a terrible thing for the victim's family.

I probably would, if he was a friend. If he's not a monster I think he's probably judging himself more harshly than we can dream. If he doesn't seem remorseful, pound him till you feel a little better.

Boy I've known a lot of fuckups in my time. There's just no other word for some people. If you grow up in my family you learn to hate the behavior but love the person. (Ack, cliche time. But it's true.)

Shaun I would stay as neutral as possible so its not perceived as "how can you associate with ____ when he killed ____'" As far as odd, I would say pretty good of things like that happening in small rural area.

That's awful, Shaun. A tragedy for everyone involved. If you can talk to your friend who was responsible, maybe you can get him to change his life. Perhaps he can stop drinking and learn to help people who are either alcoholics themselves, or who have been hurt by them.
