wheelchair dump and quad sitting
i've been c-6-7 quad 4 yrs now. i'm just lookin for some input on my manual chair seating. i havent been able to sit comfortably in 4 yrs. the chair i have is setup to have me sittin straight up and i have to just hold myself up all the time to keep from falling forward. i can drop the rear of the chair some to give me some dump. would this be the thing to do?

Thats pretty much the only thing you can do unless back angle is adjustable? Is your back upholstery adjustable (velcro straps in the upholstery)?

Shaun is correct as usual! You want to be sitting straight up but you also want to be stable. I have attached a PDF with some information on how certain changes may affect your seating.

okay thanks, ill look over them. i have a j2 back so its not very adjustable. ive been seein a lotta ppl on tv in chairs and it always looks like they have some dump in their seat. one concern is bein quad...and transfering over the tire. im in a quickie gpv so it looks like it will drop about an inch or so.[edit]..okay, after lookin at the pdf's. maybe the dump may not be so good. im stable in the chair, i just lean over a lot since its tiring having to hold myself upright all the time. i know this is bad on my back also because i can feel it. another issue is when im sitting straight up it feels like too much pressure on my butt. sorry if the explanation is kind of spacey...

Keep Us Posted To How The Adjustments Work.
Honestly Noone Really Gets Setup Rite, From A Pt. My 1st Chair Was A Joke As Well. Thats When I Started Measuring Mine Myself , W/ Help Of A Para...best Thing Is To Ask Here, From Others Who Know The Ropes. Most "sci Specialists" Think Dump Is Bad, Which Is Horseshit, Just Shows How Little They Know........its Actually Way More Comfortable. |

Rollin64-
With the J2 back, you can adjust it for a slight angle. I can get details for you if you're interested. Peace
