Thanks SuperSi! Making fun of the Class 2 engineer that suggested it to me (former co-worker)! lol

The Crank Brothers Speed Bicycle Tire Lever Tool works really well on my Schwalbe 24" MPEs. Sheldon Brown mentions it on his "flats" page.

Ok so it appears to be general consensus that there is a difference in performance when tires are at their recommended pressure. Thanks to all who responded. My next quesion is replacement tires. Several people mentioned replacing them annually. Does insurance cover this or is is something that you need to save up for because aren't they pretty pricey?

I have that tool and I've never been able to get it to work. It seems to me that it's mean to pivot on the sized axle used in bicycles and not the half inch monsters we use but it's been working for you so I wonder what I don't know about using it. Any tips, where do you place the end (pivot point)?

Depends on the tires. Primos (bottom of the line) run about $30-40/pair. Schwalbe Marathons retail for about $110/pair, but can be gotten at a discount ($89) from Sportaid.

It fits over my 1/2" axles. I didn't know it wasn't supposed to fit, so I just pop it on.

Take the wheels and tires to a local bike shop. They will change them for $10 and be done in 5 minutes.

Really, I'll have to take another look. I bought it years ago but couldn't get it to work. Like many things, I probably didn't use it right. I will try again :-)
