Very sorry that you had that spill. I got a nasty spiral fracture just rolling over in bed. These things just happen. Focus on getting the fractures mended. Watch for signs of pressure sores under the casts. Hopefully, the event will just be another item on the list of "war stories" that we accumulate over time.

Thank you gb. I have spoken with management and they have agreed to put a railing up on that side of the cement.

Thank you all for the well wishes! This was a real morale booster for me. It is nice to know that I have people in my corner. I needed it today. I found out yesterday that I broke both the tibia and fibula in one ankle in four different places and just the tibia in the other. This really cheered me up. Thanks again!

When I had a spiral fracture in my ankle it was hard to rest the ankle w/out putting pressure on my heel. I had an old beaver fur coat (sheepskin would work.) I put that on a pillow, kept ankle elevated on pillow. The fur made all the difference.

"I had an old beaver fur coat"

I would never call it old!

Thanks, so far I'm doing ok as far as pressure. My main problem is trying to transfer without putting any pressure on either of my legs. Normally, I would use my legs to help me pivot. Now I need to keep them elevated and not pivot. I'm having a hard time.

The idea of the sheepskin is something I am considering. I may just get some, just in case.

Sorry to hear about your fall. I hope you are feeling better and heal quickly. I am glad they are going to modify your porch. It sounds like a tight situation.

I read your post the other day and haven't been able to stop thinking about you. What an awful accident! It's one of those activities that's so hum-drum routine that we hardly think about it and then, wham(!). I've gotten myself in to a few pickles since I was injured 2 years ago. Having an SCI really brings home the fact that we all have to be much more careful than everyone else.

I hope you heal fast and get back to your more-active self soon!

So sorry for all your pain and suffering.

I try to remember to always have the mobile phone with me when NL is not home, just in case something happens, I can call her. She is never very far away. But, your story makes me think that I should find a way to tether the phone to me so if I get pitched out of the chair, I still have the phone life line near me. At my level of injury, I'm not sure I could drag myself anywhere as you did.

Hope you heal fast.

All the best,
GJ
