arndog,

That is an amazing amount of climbing on a handcycle. Heck, that is a lot of climbing for an AB racer. Way to go. I'm inspired to go thrash myself on the climb up to our local ski area again soon. Thanks.

Went to swim practice this evening. Coach has introduced a new rule. Fifteen minutes out of the hour is without any aids/toys!
This increases the difficulty ten times over for me! My legs sink terribly.
Luckily the it was in an indoor pool. The fire smoke is bad today!

Flying, I picked up my Greenspeed GT3 used. Probably would not have one otherwise.
I had surgery on my left foot last October. The tenderness if finally going out of it. I have been lazy about using the bike.
Need to get going again! I purchased the bike for a way to give my shoulders a break and try to increase the range of motion in my legs.
Recovery is very important especially for those of us that getting on in years.

Darla, Welcome! This is pretty much the only thread I am involved with on the site. Very positive/interesting group!
My coach has started swim clinics in Boise once a month if that’s any where close to you. She’s a wonderful swim coach.

Cajun, Drove by the Anderson ranch entrances on Sunday. The police had them shutdown. Hopefully you had a chance to break in the new camping rig.

I've been a sloth. Too much work and some travel on the weekends. Good to see everyone still hitting it.

Honestly, look at this thread. Over 3000 posts. That is awesome. One of the best threads on the entire interwebs.

Seems the majority of people posting here have the opportunity to get outside in beautiful or at least open places. That is one of the big motivators for me. Getting out in the great outdoors under my own power.

As Arndog or someone else said, we are all so different. Define what your own mountains are and climb them.

Darla-welcome to the geter done thread.
Today I put together my new Side Stix and crutched it around my warehouse till my hands were killing me. I have not covered ground with my legs that fast and stable in two years. Not that it was all that fast.
The quality of the Stix is fantastic.
Dam Steve you sound like a war zone. Makes you all that more bad ass doing what you do. I would like to meet up with you if you come to hit the White Mt. with Arndog and 395

Yay! Thanks for all the encouragement. I do plan my week around the need to exercise and it's a big part of my life. 2 years ago I had no glutes but with constant work I found them & they are slowly increasing.
I love the summer here when part of my workouts can be outdoors. I've been doing more pushing on trails since I got a 'freewheel' for my birthday. Weeee!! I'm also blessed to have a husband who helps me push through boulders, up steep hills & carries me over tiny bridges. We did a totslly INACCESSIBLE trail a couple of weeks ago. Everyone kept asking us "do you need help?" We were polite with most and told them we needed to do it ourselves, but one woman kept trying & we had to yell "no! Don't help!" Do they think we go out on these adventures expecting strangers to take care of us? Sorry, I'm diverting....

Darlagee Hello fellow Oregonian, glad your on this tread. Sounds like your getting out and about pretty well, glad to hear it. I'm down by Coos bay, is that far from you? So what part of your elbow hurts when you ride your hand cycle? I wear two tennis elbow braces when I ride, if not for the braces, I could not ride at all.

Arndog What can I say except I hope you have good insurance. Thats a hell of a lot of surgery's for one guy. What a hill climber you are, your cardio must be in great shape.

Steve Thanks for the description of your injury's. It makes me more motivated to crawl down to the river, hell if Steve can do it, I bet I can too.

Crutch walked 9 times from to front of my house to back, then back to the front. Thats about 810 feet with a lot of 180 degree turns. My past record was 6 times. My little golf ball size gluts were screaming at me. Then a fun ride on my new trike.

The unifying factor among the contributors of this thread is the passion, the fire to push one's limits, to improve, to stay healthy and sane, and to get outside and breath hard. You fit in. And I encourage anyone working out to post what they are doing - For me it is intrinsic to who I am pre and post SCI.

Today I did the following handcycle ride - both sides of Monitor Pass and the east side of Ebbets - 61 miles, 8679 ft climbing, 8.5 hour ride. My goal by the end of summer is to do both sides of each of these passes which is 10,288 ft climb fest. These are the passes for the California "Death Ride". Really beautiful with some one lane pavement 8-15% grade winding through alpine terrain. I am stoked.
That was an amazing ride yesterday. You really are an animal on the bike; I am so impressed with the amont of elevation you climbed in one ride. You are setting the bar on what can be done on a handcycle in the mountains.

Thanks, man - I'd be lying if I didn't say it honestly kicked my ass every single day, and that's the short list - every part of me is totally jacked up.
I really hope I can make it to the E. Sierras - we may not be able to go as we have developed a serious bat problem and I have to see what that's going to cost - at least I'll be sitting down when the quote hits me - We have to get ride of them soon before it gous bad, we have them at least in the 100's..........We will see.
If not, then next year for sure (I hope)

I only post my "workouts" here but for example yesterday I was up at 6AM, did office work for 5hrs, then breakfast, loaded the fruit dehydrator, the followed up with 5hrs of solid metalwork and then made dinner and was cooked, just cooked. Crosseyed with pain. It's hard, every day.
I broke most every rib as well so some have never healed and my femur really hurts, I think the heliotropic ossification has accelerated.......
My neck fusion gets stiff but my spinal rods really ache at the end of the day, and I'm nursing a hyper extended thumb, and have arthritis showing up in my fingers from polishing metal.......

I AM the King of Pain but I don't bitch about it.

Just wanted to join the chorus of voices who are amazed at what you're doing, arndog. Keep up the good work and stay safe.

Flying, glad to hear that you keep adding distance on the crutchwalking. Also, encouraging reports on riding your trikes, both of them.
