Can you post more details about the fibrin glue intervention for treatment of spinal cord injury?

I did not know that Dr. Henreich Cheng is still offering the peripheral nerve bridging and cocktail therapy for "complete" spinal cord injury. I understand that he has been doing the bridging and using the aFGF growth factor cocktail in selected patients who have clear transections of the spinal cord in the past. He used fibrin glue to attach the peripheral nerve grafts from the one side of the transected cord to the other. Dr. Damien Kuffler in Puerto Rico, working with several neurosurgeons, have reported the results of using fibrin to connect the spinal cords of ten patients with transected spinal cords. According to his presentations, they placed collagen membrane around the spinal cord and filled the collagen membrane with autologous fibrin. The treatment reduced neuropathic in all the patients and may have improved sensory function in some of the patients. To my knowledge, very few other patients have received fibrin therapies to bridge the injury site. Wise. |

Dr Wise
Do you feel that the nerve fiber treatment performed by Dr Cheng can help a complete injury at L1? Dr Cheng meet with myself this week in Taiwan and he states due to my injury I have lost neurons and once inside of my spinal cord he feels that there may be neurons left that his treatment will help my self regain thigh muscles that will help me walk better with my kafos. He also feels that his treatment will not help regain my bladder or bowel problems. He states that he feels it will be at least 20 years or longer before there will be any thing developed that will help someone like myself be able to walk on my own or regain my bladder or bowel. Can you give me any of your thoughts? Tks Powell |
