So for those of you new to the forum i will give you a brief run down of my chair ordering ordeal. So last year my DME orders a Q7 for me and first off it was wrong. So they sent it bck the second chair came in and it was better ecept i fluxate in weight. They tell me nothing we can do about it. Ok kool so i use it. 1 week later back at the DME they do some mods trying to fix some issues. 2 weeks later i am back this time a crack in the caster houSing. Sent to quickie replaced. 6 weeks later i get it back. Then they do some mods.next issue lota of flux in the caster housing so they send it back to quickie quickie holds my chair for 2 months thank god i have a marvel. Finaly send it back saying they don't know whts wrong. So dme mods again. My insurance is getting every upset now. So is the doctor. So the doctor sends me for a whole new seating eval for the icon A1 and orders a sci avocate get involed. Well needless to say i went to my seating eval and the ot took one look at the Q 7 and was ver disappointed as the chair did not fit at all. Then i transferred back in my marvel and she saw the difference. We talked about all types for chairs. And then we talked about dare i say the ICON A1 see looked over the order forum and look at my marvel and said well i agree the icon looks like th see best fit out of all the chairs. And started going through the order forum. Wrote her recommendations and sent it to the DME and doctor. Doctor approved it. DME called me up. Went over everything and sent it to icon for an esimate. Then to insurance for approval. Once approved back to icon for build. All prays needed for new icon.

Thanks man. Hope everything goes well. I am tired of the cirus. I'll make sure to keep everyone updated with my reviews of the icon. As you know i have been wanting one. Also my Ot ordered a freewheel. Now if the chair does get approved. I will be ordering a tubular footrest form sport aid so my freewheel fits snug. Also i will giv my reviewz on the freewheel and the icon with tubular foot rest. Praying my insurance aproves MY ICON.

Would be interesting to know the price difference between the Icon estimate and the Q7. In our situation, the organisation paying for my son's chair were happy to pay for the Icon via Sportaid, on the basis that the cost was less than they would pay for any chair that they bought through their normal dealers here in Australia! Morale of the story is that if you know what you want, insist on it! Win-win for everyone but the dealer!

Update order was sent to Icon for estimate, should know soon if estimate is sent back to DME and then for me to push them to send to insurance for their say. I am staying right on top of this. Should know once insurance gets it if approved in any where from 1 day to 2 weeks if approved. Will give update as soon as i know more.

We compare really well on price to similarly equipped chairs.
Put a suspension and a solid seat on any of the usual suspects in the market, and we're not much more expensive, and many, many pounds lighter - lighter even than a lot of the ultralights on the market that don't have suspension. The insurance companies should be very interested in a chair that can be reconfigured to fit over time too - anyone trying to make the "justification" arguments should have those front and center. Icon Fits. |

Good stuff Ryan - that's pretty much exactly where i am at as well. Been evaluated, justification are being signed and sent...we shall see what the insurance company says.
I'm interested in seeing the price difference between the local dealer and sportaid. Insurance didn't want to deal with sportaid, but maybe if the cost is significantly less they will reconsider. I'm paying 15% of the cost of an ultralight chair, plus the premium of the icon. So it makes a difference to my pocket book if we can shop around. Damn US medical system is so screwed up. |

She had to pay 20% of the 7 grand which came to 1500.00. This DME buys directly from Tilite so the chair was even less than 2618.00. DME's and Insurance companies should be taken to task. Rather than us paying the 20% of what the dme sends in as an invoice; we should be paying 20% of what the dme is actually paid from the insurance company. |
