high blood pressure while urination

I have had a sci for about 2 yrs and every time I urinate my blood pressure goes to 175/115 or so. does anyone know why or if it will cause heart problems? Other than that it is usually 100/80 or so!

What is your level of injury? Do you strain to urinate? Have you have radiological tests like urodynamics that look at your pressures? or cystoscopy that look at whether you have strictures (narrowing of your urethra)? It could be autonomic dysreflexia but I need more information.

yes I strain to urinate. Another weird thing I forgot to mention is when i was in the hospital I was cathing and I could feel when my bladder was full I just couldnt push it out, but as soon as I started to push the pee out I no longer feel my bladder. I get a burning sensation in my genitals and i then push a very small amount of pee out at a time. It is that burning sensation i believe that raises my blood pressure! I havent had any kind of tests and my doctor doesnt really talk about it.

I was look at what autonomic dysreflexia was and I do stay impacted in my bowles. It comes out in very hard balls and most of the time i have to go up in there and get it out with my finger.

I can tell when my blood pressure goes up, (head starts pounding really hard) and yes because of that I have taken it to make sure it doesnt get too high and kill me!!
