Silicone-based lubricants for cathing

A friend of mine does intermittent catheters and he wanted me to ask the nurse whether there is any health concerns from using silicon-based lubricants. He has just started using them and finds them much easier than water-based lubricants to insert the catheter.

Cheers

As long as they are water soluble and sterile, that should be fine.

A couple more questions at my friends request.

The silicon-based lubricants require soap and water to be washed off not just water so they are not water-soluble, would that be your understanding?
Are you suggesting that there are silicon-based lubricants that are water-soluble?
The one he is using is suited to internal use for example vaginal dryness, so he was assuming it was OK to use as a lubricant for his catheters, is this the case?

Cheers

Hi
It appears that not all silcone based lubricants are made alike. Some are water based/soluble and others are not. Read the label or look the brand up on the internet to see the ingredients.
