Most of the organizations I've been affiliated with hire a private investigator of some sort before they seriously engage a foe. The investigator usually brings back dirt and a list of people backing you (a husband with influence, parents with money, connected family members, ...). If you're standing alone (even with courage and smarts) you're at a serious disadvantage.

All I'm saying is it's hard for the little guy to win unless he ain't so little.

Well, they did hire an investigator on me...Imagine my pleasure when they found absolutely NOTHING. And with smarts and courage, I did well. And I was small, and had no wealthy parents.
I might engage an investigator myself.
