It seems like everything that could go wrong, did go wrong for you that day, TheHipCrip. As I was reading I was thinking "surely no more things went wrong" - but they did!
No wonder you were in heaven when you got home to your furry babies.

Ok, I admit I smiled at that.

I kept thinking of your kitties while reading the story, and thinking how nice it must be to come home to them. Glad you made it in one piece and purring awaited.

Oh my, what an ordeal - one wouldn't thinking going to the physiatrist would involve being beaten up and almost electrocuted.

I seem to remember reading somewhere about the medical effects of purring cats. I get purring cats eventually, but upon returning home I am generally first mauled by giant dogs.

HipCrip, what a nightmare! You deserved a good shot of brandy (or whatever) after an ordeal like that. I occasionally fly, but hate it everytime because of screwups like this, wheelchair damage, the whole being the most interesting show in town during loading (oh, right, it is called boarding, but for crips the word loading is more appropriate sometimes). Glad you are home to purring kitties.

Haha my husband would happily give one away too (well so he says, he's often found cuddling the thing).

The dogs say NO though - THEY're the best therapy.

The cats say "Cats rule, Dogs drool"

Aw, thank you guys for the empathy and support! Reading all of these nice posts was right up there in making me feel better with the cuddles and purrs from my kitties.

In retrospect, I guess I've been pretty lucky that I've only been caught in the rain once after making this trip to PR four-five times a year for the last five years. Hopefully, this was my first and last experience with precipitation when I need to fly out of airports that don't use jetways (she says with gimp fingers crossed). Zero's right, I need to get back to the lower 48 soon!

Eileen, I actually laughed out loud (waking the napping Puddy Tat plopped next to my computer) as I read your post re: loading vs. boarding. As I was proofreading my recap of this recent airline ordeal, I discovered that I had used the words "load" and "loading" instead of "board" and "boarding" about 95 percent of the time! It's almost impossible to not feel like baggage when getting strapped to the people dolly (aka aisle chair), tipped back and cranked up that lift.

As far as kitties hinting about living in the topics, we'd love to have y'all as neighbors, quad79 and TAM63, but between the indoor ten and the now three ferals we care for, our cat boarding facility is full!

Hi TheHipCrip,

Sorry about your airline boarding/loading ordeal. Years ago I saw Itzhak Perlman interviewed on TV. I think it was on '60 Minutes'. I remember he described his airline boarding experience as being loaded onboard "like a sack of potatoes". It may have been this indignity that got him interested in advocating "for people with disabilities, actively promoting laws to ease access to buildings and transportation."

Quote:
Born (1945) in Tel Aviv, Israel, Itzhak Perlman contracted polio at age 4, permanently paralyzing his legs. He performs his music while seated and walks with crutches. Itzhak is a well known advocate for people with disabilities, actively promoting laws to ease access to buildings and transportation.
Some other inaccessibility experiences by well-known personalities:

It seems as though you made the trip without contracting the flu so that's a big positive. Good for you!

Bob.
