(I was a walkie at the time.)

My ortho surgeon made a Z cut lengthwise in the tendon and stitched the ends together, making the tendon twice as long but half as thick. After eight weeks in a cast, I healed beautifully and haven't had any problems since, although I do worry about it when taking Cipro.
They did about the same to me these days I wear a pair of pedors diabetic shoes and they give me good stability. I have my pca do leg stretches every night to keep my heels as loose possible.

With Davids's MS his spasticity got so bad in his left foot that it actually turned inward and upward, looked completely deformed. He had surgery August 14 this year, they put in a 8" titanium rod thru his heel into the leg and a bunch of other pins criss crossing in the ankle area to keep his foot flat and straight. He will never be able to flex his foot but its straight. We done that because the ROM, shoes, and standing frame, none was helping, botox was option but wasn't a permanent fix they were going to swap the tendons from one side to the next but when they put his foot to sleep, it still stuck in the same position so that wouldn't have helped either. Best advise - do the ROM.

I got foot drop in just my leg that lost all movement after surgery. In hospital the nurses used to put a pillow at the sole of my two feet so that when i was lying there my toes were pointing upwards..they warned me about foot drop. At home in the wheelchair I noticed my bad foot starting to turn in. I had to conciously make a point of putting it in the correct position and also to do lots of flexing toes ankles even using my hand to massage it. The more I was able to stand the better it helped. Its still not right and i don't think it will ever be, but even when lying in bed now I still try and place my feet correctly. Also because of it I find it harder to get a shoe on to that foot.
