Send Congress a message That you do not want to Rent Your next Power Wheelchair

Hi, I hope you can help with an important issue that concerns People who are disabled and require Power wheelchairs. In the future, there will be an access problem for these people to own their Power Wheelchair, The finance Committee has inserted the Elimination of the First Month Purchase Option for Power Mobility in Health Care Reform or America's Health Care Future Act 2009 section 3136.

This legislation will require you to Rent your Power Wheelchair for 13 months, while currently you can own your Wheelchair in 30 days after you take possession. Now who wants to Rent their Power Wheelchair, this is a personal Issue, our wheelchairs are more than mobility they are our life. Who wants to Rent life. Not me.

It will remove your option to purchase or rent when receiving a new Group 1 or Group 2 power wheelchair and require that you to rent it for 13 months before the title transfers. For some reason, many in Congress feel people who receive power mobility don't use their devices, so this is their attempt to preclude paying up front. The problem is, if enacted in legislation, our access to power mobility will be seriously affected. How many providers will be able to stock an inventory of power chairs, all sizes and configurations, and wait 13 months for payment? And, what about necessary repairs? Medicare will not pay for rental repairs...how many providers will be able to absorb that?
