Thank you posting this. It is interesting and indeed heartwarming. The story is unfortunately quite misleading. I am not sure that the child had cerebral palsy at all. Cerebral palsy is damage to the brain during development in utero. This child suffered a post-birth cerebral hemorrhage that resulted in loss of over 40% of his brain and severe epilepsy. By the way, the video is on http://www.3news.co.nz/Video/60Minut...ult.aspx#video There are treatments for the epilepsy and I wonder if the child is currently receiving anti-epilepsy drugs or vagal stimulation. I am glad that the child seems to have improved but I am skeptical that the umbilical cord blood is responsible. On the other hand, I am trying hard to keep an open mind. According to the TV show, thousands of Americans are going to Tijuana for the therapy that is costing $30,000. Dr. Ramirez (who use to give shark embryo cells for spinal cord injury) is now doing this therapy. Given the history of the previous therapies, I am even more skeptical. They are apparently giving the cells intrathecally (although the show did not use these words) and the cells were grown. Because of this, I doubt that the cells are HLA-matched. Finally, while the parents are quite enthusiastic about the treatment, they are being asked to go back to receive repeat therapies. This is similar to what the Shenzhen group asks people to do. If this truly worked in this way, why don't they do this in the United States? Wise |

Unbilical Stem Cell Treatment for Ceberal Palsy
The dollar cost mentioned on the TV show is far more than it actually cost. The umbilical stem cells cost about a tenth of what they said. The diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy was from the Drs in New Zealand so I can't comment on that. Thanks for the direct link. I found out that Caleb has continued to improve. I myself have since done the umbilical stem cell treatment. So far it has helped regenerate my spinal disc that was causing me awful pain as the vertebra were constricting the spinal cord root at C7. My hope is for more improvements. Such as repairing my damaged spinal cord. Still hoping.

Stem Cell treatment
My cost was less than $3,000. Why is this not available in the US? Very good question.
