Cure Pain

ok i really don't wanna sound like a bitch in any way so ima gonna say i the best way i kno how

Dr. Young you are one of the brightest most intellectual and one of the most passionate people truly i have ever met in all my 29 years. The way that you write and the things that you say are mindboggeling and i truly don't believe there is another scientists/doctor here on this earth that knows more about this stuff than you...( that's meant years of experience and passion my dear wise ) please understand that this injury is hell on earth when i tell u and sometimes i think its no different than when Jesus suffered on the cross. I think if every scientists strapped together their legs with rope for a couple days or hands whatever......the sense of urgency will be there. I know there are scientists out there that do however think outside the box.

Do you really wanna grow old still typing the same old bullshit to everyone over and over and over again until u can no longer smoke pipes and use blackberries because you yourself; will need help?

When i was in DC at the CRPA rally i looked every scientist in the eye and i didn't ask them the same question they get every day of there life....when???? Instead i looked at McDonald, you and Keirstead and said "will i walk again in my lifetime"; and, every one of you said "yes." Now if there is a cure or partial cure in 10 years will i will be nearly 40 will i still be able to benefit? The thing that disturbed me the most is that the statistics show the a majority of the people who get this injury are between the ages of 18-30. and that is the saddest life wasted on earth.

You show me or anyone show me statistics of what kind of money needs to be raised ( almost like a bar graff) of whose the closest for chronics and i promise with all my heart and soul i will try to raise this money but only with a promise that i will walk again and be able to make love in a normal way and feel the sand between my toes.

This forum is getting more and more redundant by the second and every single last one one us is suffering with our heads on a silver platter just gettin ready to be eaten alive with life. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP US. i believe that this is one of the most kinds of suffering here on this earth.

i don't know how much longer i can go on.

Well i could tell u i had a 51/50 @ Thailians but i wont say that. UMMM lets see where to start. First off, the neuropathic pain gets worse by the day. It started in my right foot and is now gradually working its way up my right leg! I have horrible back problems and i refuse to take narcotic med's so i gotta live with it. ( narcotic med's make me feel like im on speed or somethin and really does not mesh well with my brain ) Currently, I have an ear infection. ( maybe too much water in the ear from swimming constantly - i don't know) Again, my doctors seem to always be scratching their heads with me too . I had 2 UTI infections in the last 2 months and im paralyzed from the T6 lesion down.. But other than that Dr. Young everything is totally gravy.

I kno that people can say or i can even say for myself that i sit here and bitch and moan but yet i should be doing more and putting in more effort. But i am goin on my 10th month sci'd and honestly with this many complications and ailments how the hell can i do anything else. Besides this, my work is piling up by the second and like an idiot i still continue to work.

I don't know how i am continuously getting sick i get my sheets changed daily sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. Everything is sterilized to the fullest in my home. Between help with cooking , and cleaning, and errands and assistants, and work from puttin in and out of pool, and doctor appts. i can probably fund a scientist and their whole lab.

My questions as usual get left unanswered. My family doesn't know which way is up or down with funding because everything is so haywired and jarbled and nothing is really set in stone anywhere.

I am completely totally utterly in pain constantly and i just wish for 1 day that i can be free of pain. It's always something new. It's simply not fair.
So i hope this answers your question. I am not just sitting here in a chair scratching my ass i can't feel waiting for a cure. I AM SUFFERING.

P.S. I think i have a cavity now too.

spidergirl,

I bet that Edward Norton would never forget you. Nobody who meets you will ever forget you...

Your back pain doesn't sound like neuropathic pain. It sounds like real back pain. I assume that you have rods and they might be contributing to the pain. Your description of pain that starts in your right foot works its way up your right leg also does not sound like neuropathic pain. It sounds a little like sciatica (compression of the root or nerves that go to the leg), confused by the fact that you don't have normal feelings below the injury site. It might be due to compression of a spinal root (maybe L5 or S1).

Getting two urinary tract infections and an ear infection in one month is too much. Did you get treated with antibiotics for these infections? Something is not right and I am concerned that there may be a reason why you may be getting the infections from somewhere. While I know that stress can cause immunosuppression and increase infections, my tendency is to use that explanation as a last resort. If I were your doctor, I would get anexperienced person to review your cathing procedures, make sure that you don't have a decubitus, evaluate your hormonal status, and even consider the remote possibility that you have infected rods.

I recommend two things:

1. Ask your doctor get a CT scan to evaluate what is going on in your back instead of prescribing pain drugs. Find out if you have a herniated disc or your rods (I assume that you have rods or some instrumentation) are doing something to your back or you are getting a spinal curvature (scoliosis). If the pain is localizing from the anchor points of the rods, you may want to consider removing the rods.

2. Eat healthy foods, drink sufficient fluids, and sleep enough and regularly. If you are not eating properly, drinking sufficient fluids, and sleeping enough, you need to reorganize your life and make sure that you eat healthy foods with protein, drink at least 2-3 liters a day, and sleep sufficiently. Drink lots of carrot juice (I am serious) and take vitamin pills.

I don't know. Something more than just spinal cord injury is happening.

Wise.

You're less than a year into this. Only you can determine that by how much you keep your body in shape. (I'm obviously no doctor or researcher but I think you fare a much better chance than those who are 10+yrs now).

Your own cook!?! I'm jealous!

I understand your heartache but SCI and Jesus suffering on the Cross is incomparable in my humble opinion. Jesus was beaten with a flagellum that pulled chunks of flesh out of His back, He needed to carry the heavy plank of wood a long way to Golgatha, His clothes were torn off of Him again pulling His torn bleeding flesh, He was crowned with thorns plunged into His forehead and then nailed to a Tree.

I'd like to walk again, experience sex fully and feel the sand between my toes also but I wouldn't compare my suffering to Jesus'. Even I had strong pain medications in my system when my back was torn open for surgery.

ummm le type francai-

I will not sit here and argue about the Jesus and the cross suffering because everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I was always into astrology, mysticism , and spirituality so sometimes the whole GODLY thing gets confusing. He suffering for was it 3 days? I don't know i didn't see Passion of the Christ BUT we suffer everyday. And all my sci friends that have been injured longer say it gets better......and movies always end with a good ending. HOW ABOUT OURS? How does ours end?

I will agree with you here. I've often had the same sentiment. A day of suffering cannot compete with years of it. When I wrote that post, I was thinking of the severity of the pain, not the longevity. Your initial post didn't mention neuropathic pain and constantly getting ill, Spidergirl, so I hope you forgive me. You had mentioned things you wanted back that resonated with me and thus I thought you were simply SCI without the severe pain and infections.

Forgive my post above if it seems insensitive and overly analytical. I have this knee-jerk reaction to always get defensive of Jesus.

I'm totally empathizing with you, SpiderGirl, and I pray for all of our sakes the cure is over the horizon.
