Lyrica Side FX?

Can Lyrica make me feel really sleepy and drunk/high? I saw my doctor Thursday and among the many things we discussed, he wanted me to switch from Gabapentin/Neurontin to Lyrica. He says the Lyrica may help reduce my pain.

Right now I'm weaning off Gabapentin and ramping up Lyrica per his instructions. I'll be off the Gab by this Thursday and on a full dose of Lyrica by the same day.

I'm taking 50 mg of Lyrica three times a day and will be taking 100 mg three times a day by Thursday.

He increased my Ditropan, too, but it's never made me feel drunk.

If it's the Lyrica, will the sleepiness and drunk/high feeling pass given a little time?

I've been taking 100 mg of Lyrica 3 times a day for a couple of months now and have seen no side effects. That might be just me tho;

Yep

When I first started taking Lyrica, it made me feel drunk for sure! The room even felt like it was tilting sideways once in a while. It sort of came in "waves". It did go away after a week or two, getting somewhat better each day. If and when you wean off the Lyrica, GO SLOWLY! I was weaned quickly and had major problems from that. Don't worry, you won't be drunk for too long

Thank you SJean and Karla. The drunk/high feeling has me kinda freaked. I feel goofed starting half an hour after each dose until hours later. Just as the drunk/high feeling passes, it's time for another round of Lyrica.

What a cheap date I'd make!

I'll hang on and wait to become acclimated to the Lyrica. I would not want this feeling all the time for sure.

I haven't noticed a decrease in pain yet, but I'm not at full dosage either.

Even tho it didn't effect me that way, if it is so well matched to your pill taking pattern as it is, It sure seems to be your problem!

Yes, I am on Lyrica

I take Lyrica almost a year, they changed me from Gabapentin and I take 150 3x a day. I have tried to get off it however the withdrawls aren't very fun. I am used to the medicine it has really done wonders. See I have neuropathy of the Jaw from a lousy dental procedure and Osteomylitis. Anyway just curious to why they are prescribing this for you. If you do not mind me asking. I know for the most part the drug eventually levels out, however do not suddenly stop taking it, the withdrawls, I get moddy and just feel awful, I prefer to just stay on it for now, but I have tried to level off, the pain comes back and I start to swell.

Hi,

Lyrica has been reported to have less side effects than gabapentin but still it can cause drowsiness and symtpoms you are describing.

It sounds to me like you may be on a regime of increasing your Lyrica that is too quick for you. I would contact your doctor now and report the symptoms and take it up a bit slower.

Also, increasing your ditropan at the same time as increasing your Lyrica can be tricky because you never know which is giving yuo the problems.

Keep us posted.

It's not the Lyrica. It's the Ditropan! I spaced the time I take the meds and it's the Ditropan.

What's up with Ditropan making me feel drunk?
