I believe you still have to pay property tax

You just get a break on it, I believe Quads get even more of a break on their taxes than do Paras, and blind people I believe are totally exempt, which is as it should be. In my State, its does'nt matter, nobody gets a break (or at least anything significant) and the taxes here in the Northeast are skyrocketing in most parts.

As far as housing, check with HUD, "Housing Urban Development", they might be able to help you. Where you live it is just about all Ranches, which a lot of them are easily converted into "Wheelchair Accessable Homes" and that might be you're best bet, it mainly involves bathroom modifications. Sometimes you can make the Bathroom larger by taking out a closet next door etc. It is all creativity. Also you should check with you're local "Voc Rehab Office" maybe they can be of assistance to you. Good luck.

thanks for the reply, yes in fla. you are totaly exempt from property tax if yo are a quad, nd it is prorated for other things,(para, blid, etc)and we have checked with everybody, there are first time buyers programs, so if yiu are going to get hurt make sure yu o it before you buy a home., t just makes me mad that they seem to say if you are handicaped you don't deserv to own a home, you must always rent. maybe after we get this house built i will take a trip to the govener's office and have a little chat.

The FHA 203K Renovation/Rehab loan may suit your needs. The idea behind this loan program is to renovate older homes instead of building new. They offer purchase or refinance loans.

I recently built my accessible home with the 203k. I found a run down home for the price of the propety. Then took a loan out for the price of the propety and the cost of a full remodel. The result was a state of the art wheelchair accessible dream home, for the same price as your average home.
