How often do you change your cushion?

A year after my injury, I am realizing how much bulk I am
losing from my rear(butt) and thinking it would be prudent to
look at a new cushion. Seeing as my original was fitted
to my bulkier rear. I'm currently using a J2..

So how often do people change their cushions? and what prompts
a change?

Also how many people regularly use more than one cushion, as in
swap between different cushions through the week or the month
etc.

I don't know why, but I keep thinking along the lines of the shoe
analogy, how I'd change shoes to give my feet a break and not
just from the fashion angle. If I was going to spend the day
hiking, some pretty robust boots etc... So If I know I am
going to be wheeling on rugged terrain how about a
cushion that absorbs more bumps.. just rambling.

Thanks.

Hi,

In my long term care setting, we consider a new cushion when a person has skin breakdown from sitting for long periods, or lost/gained a significant amount of weight.
If you feel you need a re-evaluation, I would recommend a pressure mapping of your skin to see where your pressure points are.

Also, I am not aware of anyone who rotates their cushions with another. Once you have a good cushion, it should be able to accomodate different settings.

i use 2 roho cushions with the same model and size. they get rotated everytime i soil them, ie; diarrhea. there are times when i have an accident in the middle of the day and i have to get back up on the chair again. i don't have to wait for the soiled cushion to dry.

i agree, if you gained some weight and you're getting skin breakdowns, then would be a good time to replace it.

I think the average life of a cushion is about two years or so I've been told by a few therapists/

How often will Medicare authorize the purchase of a new cushion?

It was every 2 yrs.. Now it's every 5 yrs.
Which is stupid! A roho will not last 5 yrs. Mine don't.

i got a little meat on my butt, so for the last twenty years or so, i get find a new piece of foam rubber and replace it, last timne they were putting some foam insulation on our a/c water tank at work, i talked the guy into leave a few feet of it behind.
but if you do change it, keep a eye on it at least daily
